We had the good fortune of connecting with Samjah Iman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samjah, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I attribute the success of my brand to authenticity. Regardless of what society says, what is popular, and what everyone else is doing – I stay true to who I am. My brand succeeds because it is totally me, and if there is one thing I am good at doing, it is being myself. I have to be able to look myself in the mirror at the end of the day, and if I am faking the funk – that won’t sit right with my spirit, and being authentic feeds my spirit. I’m able to keep my brand afloat because my spirit is being fed. I’m able to weed out opportunities that don’t fit my mission quickly because I’m aligned with my authenticity and spirit. Being true to myself and my brand isn’t always easy, especially in a world that glorifies capitalism over truth, but it is essential for my soul and for the young girls who are coming up after me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I simply live and enjoy life, put stylish looks together (in my opinion), then write about it all. Style & Energy (my brand) was created to document my colorful journey in hopes that my readers see themselves through my fashion, words, experiences, and lessons. It was also created to demonstrate how simple outfits can stand out when accompanied with a pleasant aura and the right amount of confidence.

Style & Energy is my contribution to society. It’s the vehicle I use to promote style, individuality, healing, peace, and love. Through this brand, my mission is to fashionably inspire, to advocate for self-love, to encourage others to exercise their intuition and become more self-aware.

I hope to show my readers that being true to themselves is paramount. No one has to be extravagant to look good; it’s all about authenticity, attitude, and spirit. The biggest lesson I’ve learned through this journey is how imperative it is for me to be as consistent as possible and to stay true to myself. Consistency creates habits and authenticity feeds your soul.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m in New Orleans currently so our favorite thing to do here is eat, drink, and party!! Covid has put a strain on our festivals but the restaurants and bars are slowly coming back to life. A perfect weekend in New Orleans consists of food, drinks, a great festival, and good music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have an awesome village. My Creator has blessed me tremendously, and everyday I’m in awe of my life. My ancestors paved the way for me and prayed for me hundreds of years ago, and I’m just living proof of their manifestations. My family often encouraged my individuality as a young girl, and that has shaped the woman I am today. My spiritual guide/friend Chris Rodgers has really blessed me with insight, wisdom, and books that have matured me and opened my mind to a new way of thinking. I have beautiful relationships with people who motivate and inspire me. I also attribute a lot of my success and growth to Yoga. Yoga has afforded me both mental and physical discipline. It teaches me how to breathe through comfort and discomfort. I am blessed.
