We had the good fortune of connecting with Phylicia Franklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phylicia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks can definitely be challenging and nerve-wrecking, however it has aided in my growth. From relocating to a new city, leaving friends and family behind, to turning my hobby of photography into a business and most recently hosting multi-city pop up events in which I collaborate with local businesses to showcase and sell their products/services—- those have all been risks. All of these steps went hand in hand with my lateral/vertical growth, one risk supported another venture. Thankfully, throughout my journey I have experienced many rewards, gained meaningful connections, yet also teachable moments that birthed valuable lessons. Without risks from time to time, we may neglect a to tap into a side of ourselves that we may have failed to recognize.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My business offers affordable studio and scenic photography within the ATL/NYC & ORL area. I’ve also recently launched my 3rd pop up event that not only incorporated my photography but also included a space where small local businesses are able to come together collectively to sell/promote their products and or services while networking. I was grateful to host my first successful pop up in NYC back in Sept 2020. Due to the response of the first event, we are able to make this a multi-city event by following up two events in Atlanta and New York this July. Coordinating an event along with focusing on your craft can be challenging at times, however planning and a great support system has helped me through the process.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in the city of Atlanta has opened my eyes to so many hidden gems within the area. As a fan of the outdoors and nature, a walk on the belt line would be my first go to! While a good walk on the belt line is great for fitness, there are many places to explore during that walk. My favorite would definitely be Ponce City Market! It’s a one stop shop to eat, enjoy a cocktail and have some fun on the roof where games and the wonderful 9 Mile station resides. Whenever friends or family are in town, PCM is definitely a go to. Following Ponce City, my next hidden gem would be the Red Phone Booth located within the downtown area. Upon arrival you would need a special code that you’d dial at the phone booth to grant entry. After gaining access, the atmosphere is extremely classy and welcoming, offering a variety of amazing high end cocktails along with a great cigar selection.Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely have to give recognition to my close friends and family. I’ve been extremely blessed to have a circle that has not only been supportive but also very inspiring. From late night calls to execution of ideas, they’ve helped fueled me to stay in drive.
