We had the good fortune of connecting with Imani Byers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Imani, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks is essential in becoming a successful business owner and brand. You never know what you don’t try! Had I not taken a chance on myself and what I envisioned Rebyrth Wellness to become, I would probably still be working a 9-5 that was no longer serving me and filled with resentment and regret. When I made the decision (after much prayer and conversations with mentors and other wise counsel) to quit my full time job to pursue what was at the time my dream full time, I was releasing control of my situation and put all my faith and trust in The Most High and the vision that was birthed inside of me-now the rest is history. Taking that risk helped me to live up to my name and show myself that I can really do anything I set my intentions on-and that has been the most humbling experience thus far on my journey.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Rebyrth Wellness is a pregnancy care service that provides full spectrum doula services, placenta encapsulation and pelvic steaming guidance in Atlanta, Savannah, and virtually. A full spectrum doula is a trained professional educated in supporting persons on their preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum journeys. Since launching in January 2020, Rebyrth Wellness has successfully assisted over 20 families within the Atlanta & Savannah Metropolitan areas as well as virtually.
Starting this business was honestly an act of faith. I knew that I had a calling to help birthing bodies heal from previous traumas and to aid them in having safe and memorable birth experiences. By no means was it easy-especially because I started my business right before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States. It was nerve wracking, but I stuck to my internal plan, sought out business mentorship and started marketing and networking heavily in birth networks within the cities of Atlanta, Savannah and online. I also invested in memberships for doula directories and I owe a huge amount of success to that and effective internet marketing.
The most important lessons I have learned thus far is that business mentorship is an absolute necessity. Starting a business is more than just applying for a business license and sending invoices; you really have to be meticulous in selecting the platforms that manage customer relations, ensuring you have a written and realistic business plan, and ensuing you plan time for self care. You can’t show up as the best version of yourself when you are tired and burned out, so scheduling weekly self care activities is super helpful.
As the world continues to learn about Rebyrth Wellness, I want them to know that they are going to receive a comprehensive wellness experience. My goal is to ensure that all of my clients are well informed and prepared physically and mentally for their journey. What sets Rebyrth Wellness apart is our focus on postpartum mental health and wellness. All of our clients receive wellness checks at 3,6,9 and 12 months because perinatal mood and anxiety disorders can show up at any time during the first year postpartum, so I do my due diligence to ensure that my clients, to include their partners, are not suffering in silence.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Brunch in Atlanta! My favorite go to spot is Negril Village-the oxtails are amazing and the rum punch does the trick every time but it’s really the music that is my favorite. Recently, I have enjoyed hanging out at Ponce City Market-there is so much to do there. It’s a great place to catch a quick vibe with friends and just chill. I also love kicking back at Therapy Lounge on the Northside, it’s a cute date spot and I really enjoy their hookahs.
I really love Atlanta in the spring time in general. You can also catch me outside at Sope Creek Trail in Marietta. I love being immersed in nature and taking in the beauty of God’s creations. I can also be found getting my produce from Dekalb Farmer’s Market-they usually have every item I am looking for.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank the best business mentor I have EVER encountered, Brandie Bishop of Your Tribe Family Services. Without her support and guidance I honestly don’t think Rebyrth Wellness would have blossomed into what it is now. She pushed me to be more than just a doula-but a solid business owner.
I would also like to thank my partner, Sheldon and our fur baby Khloe’, for sacrificing time while I work tirelessly to actualize my dreams. I am appreciative of his love and support.
I would also like to thank my good friend, Kalah Harris, owner of Place of Kai in Douglasville, GA for allowing me to sell my products in the shop and continue to perfect my craft as a pelvic steam hydrotherapist in training.
