We had the good fortune of connecting with KingDarius TheGreat and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KingDarius, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose a career in the performing arts (music) because it was a way for me to vividly express myself on topics ranging from everyday life experiences, to social and political topics. Growing up, I had what most would consider to be an introverted personality, but I always had a strong opinion on things, and music acted as a gateway for me to open up and speak freely through my lyricism.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would say what sets me apart from others in my field from an artist standpoint is, my ability to stay true and stand firm on my overall message without conforming to what mainstream opinion may think about me. I think in an industry and genre where originality has become null and void, stepping outside of the box and touching on subjects that most are either afraid to highlight, or simply don’t have certain knowledge to even deliver a wider variety of content, makes me very unique in that sense. Topics ranging from the epidemic of human trafficking in this country and the lack of mainstream coverage it receives, to the importance of proclaiming proper Nationality status as a melanated person in America, my current content is a complete contrast to what your average mainstream Artist will deliver it’s listeners. I also believe my current fanbase and fanbase to come, will appreciate me for this, as it will allow them to have a fresh and broader choice when it comes to whom they’d like to listen to and enjoy. I’ve had success early in my career by being apart of the group C-SIDE which was responsible for the first viral song in music with the song Myspace Freak featuring Jazze Pha produced by Hit James. We also had Billboard Chart topping success with the song Boyfriend/Girlfriend featuring Keyshia Cole. As the primary Writer of both of those songs, that experience taught me that not only did the Universe bless me with the ability to be a performing artist, but it also blessed me with the ability to write for others as well. That brings me to some of my most proud moments. Being able to work alongside some of my favorite artists I witnessed as a fan, was very surreal yet humbling. Established artists such as Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Flo-Rida, Mike Jones, Young Jeezy, and others, really resonated well with me, and gave me an opportunity to experience the industry from a different role besides being an artist. I will say that the journey has definitely had it’s ups and downs in a very time consuming, unapologetically ruthless industry, but I’ve learned to take the good with the bad and eliminated negativity as much as possible to protect my energy going forward and it has made me not only a better Artist/Writer, but most importantly a better person. I would like the world to know that I plan to build a legacy of consistency, and mental growth, with the hopes they will enjoy my creative, yet witty way I deliver my musical material.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The city of Atlanta and its metro surroundings is a very fun & diverse place to live and visit. That being said, there are places I’d take a friend to depending on the personality type of that friend. Regardless, we’d definitely go to Harold’s Chicken and Ice Bar on my side of town in Marietta just north of the city. The chicago based restaurant is full of outstanding food and the best chicken you’ll ever have in life, as well as great people. It’s a place you can enjoy at any time of the day and night.
If my friend enjoys the outdoors, I think Piedmont Park would be a perfect fit as it’s a great area to catch fresh air, a cool game of flag football, and great food vendors in the surrounding area.
If my friend is a sports person, a Braves game on the Northside would be imperative, The Battery has tons of great stores and restaurants to enjoy.
If they are into fine dining and high end shopping, I’d definitely recommend we swing by The Avolon in Alpharetta and buy a couple Tesla Cars at the Tesla Dealership but not before we eat at Rumis Kitchen which has a great Persian Cuisine menu.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give an enormous personal Shoutout to singer, model, actress, and businesswoman, Aria Marie. Along with being a huge contribution to my song SELF LOVE which features her phenomenal singing presence on the chorus, she has also had a great motivational influence on myself in so many ways from a spiritual standpoint, to the importance of maintaining physical fitness/health, and being an overall positive energy source who leads by example. She is a living legend in my eyes and others, and is fully deserving of all the blessings she currently has, as well as the continued success into the near future and beyond.
