We had the good fortune of connecting with Rashatta Daugett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rashatta, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has constantly changed, as my life changes. When I had our first child, I battled between being a housewife and giving up my career goals or finding a way to make them both work without lowering the standards I personally had in each perspective role. With the wisdom of God, I was able to do so. Leaning more on my entrepreneurial skills has been a must when balancing family life and career life. I then looked for work that would fit my lifestyle weather it was virtual work or kid friendly environments that would allow me to bring my daughter to work with me.
In doing so, it allowed me the opportunity to continue to sharpen my skills and not have a big gap in industry activity. As my daughter became older and able to do more on her own, I was able to hit the workforce once again as she went off to school. Still finding opportunities that allowed me to be home when she was home. These things were important to me because I wanted my husband and I to be the greatest influence in my daughter’s life not a school or daycare.
As time moved on and our second child was born, life was very different. Not only did I have to balance starting over with a newborn, but my husband had been ordained as a Pastor and started a new church, which also took time in addition to the pursuit of my career goals. During these years, I had to become very creative, I actually contracted my skills out with companies to ensure I was able to make my own schedule and still spend the needed time with my newborn and be available to council the women in our church when needed.
As my son has now become much older, I have been able to remain sharp in my skills and talents which landed me the opportunity to be COO and part owner of Xperienc Inc. I don’t believe I would have been in a position to have my current career had I not found creative ways to balance being a present mom to my children and focus on remaining relevant and active in my industry.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a product of North Atlanta High School’s International Business program, where my passion for entrepreneurship was sparked. In the program I was afforded opportunities to travel to Tunis, Tunisia, Germany, Trinidad to name a few. I just recently received my mini-MBA and currently enrolled at Western Governors University for my MBA.
Serving as the Chief Operating Officer of Xperienc Inc, I am held responsible for making things happen! All things operational are approved by my office. I am one of 2- not only women, but African American women who serve as owners and partners in the company. In a nutshell, every customer, every project, everything driving Xperienc Inc is from my office.
I am honored to serve with a team of influential individuals that hold several titles in many different industries. Starting with entertainment guru, Mr. Domonique Mitchell, who kept his promise to me from day one, in making sure my hard work never went un-noticed. He is currently a Co-founder and a distinguished board member of Xperienc Inc. Next, is Rev. Dr. Gerald F. Poe Jr. PM, 32⁰ KCCH, Chairman of the Board, Managing Member and Co- Founding member of Xperienc Inc. and a technology guru. Our Co-Chairman and Co-Founder, Dr. Kenneth Hutchins who simply exude positivity. And of course, Ms. Jasmine Baskin, our President/Chief Executive Officer, is a powerhouse in our industry.
We launched January 1 of 2019; literally building apps from scratch, working up to the night prior. It was a whirlwind, but we did it!
For the first year, we were focused on getting content that was creator driven and had variety so that we could capture more audiences. Now we have shifted to becoming a major resource and distribution aggregator for creators across the entertainment industry. Offering everything from consultations to distribution on multiple platforms.
Being an entrepreneur is about taking and assuming risks that others will not. As a mom and wife, I have continually struggled with the seemingly stable income of a regular 9-5 and using that energy to expand and grow my business. With God-given wisdom from the word of God and our parents, I believe my husband and I have found that balance after many years of trial and error I might add.
Things don’t always go as planned, now, in 2021 we can finally see the seeds of our actions yielding fruit in our lives. It also helps that our children are older and less dependent on us at 19 and 8.
As the C.O.O. of a growing company, we face challenges every day! However, I am proud of the team we have, and we work hard to move this company forward daily and sometimes nights too…LOL!
