We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that taking risks is like vegetation for the soul. Many people don’t like to eat their veggies, but we all know that they’re good for us. It can be really hard to take risks, but I believe it is what the soul wants. We need to be able to spread our wings and fly. Honestly, taking risks has added more joy in my life. Once I got past the anxiety behind taking risks & making decisions to invest in myself without regret, I began to feel more in control of my life. It is liberating to be able to take a risk on yourself and the things that you want for yourself in life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
While my business is not full time, and I actually work full time in Corporate America, I use Be Beyond Ordinary, LLC as a creative outlet. I have a lot of people in my circle that benefit from the products that I make/sell, so it was really something that I made for the people. I allow my customers to choose designs while adding my own flare to every piece I create. I started this business at the beginning of the pandemic, using money that I had saved for a trip (that I couldn’t go on because of the outbreak) to fund everything for my startup. I learned that owning a business is not easy and that it takes a lot of dedication, hard-work, and attention to detail. Just because you own your own business doesn’t mean you won’t be working hard. You’ll just be working hard for yourself and toward your dreams, which should make you want to work harder. I am overcoming challenges daily. There are a lot of them, such as keeping your clientele interested, keeping yourself motivated, budgeting, etc. I would just like to share with the world that “you don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to be great.” That was a quote from Les Brown that touched my heart the first time I heard it. Don’t let fear hold you back from getting started on anything. Getting started is the first step to taking charge of your life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I live in the same city, so we get to spend a lot of time doing things together. We are foodies, for sure, so we are always finding new restaurants to try. If we both had a break for a week to just hang out in the city, I imagine we would: Go to Jeju Sauna Spa for nice day of relaxation.
We would go to Little 5 Points and explore the many thrift shops, small restaurants, and stores in the area. My favorite spots in Little 5 are Go Vinda (vegan restaurant), Arden’s Garden (natural smoothie restaurant), Crystal Blue (crystal shop), and The Vortex (American food restaurant/bar).
We could also take a trip to the Georgia Aquarium, which I have always loved.
We could go to Kat’s Cafe on a Tuesday night for their free comedy night Tuesdays.
We could go to Apache Cafe for their open mic Fridays.
We could do karaoke and arcade games at Punch Bowl Social, or go bowling at The Painted Pin.
We love to eat at Juicy Crab and La Parrilla!
We could go to TopGolf, Halcyon, or to The Rooftop at Ponce for a day of activities.
There’s so much to do here! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my best friend, Taylor. She has always supported me in everything I do, and I love her for that. I also want to thank my parents, of course. They have always been my number 1 fans and have always had my back. I also want to thank my best friend Rashaan for being a big supporter and my first ever customer. I also want to give a shoutout to a person, who will remain unnamed. However, he was the one who truly pushed me to take this risk and invest in myself. I thank him for giving me the support, courage, and guidance to start my business. I would not be where I am in my business if he had not been the person for me that he was. Thank you. I love you all.
