We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Fant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I represent Lawrenceville, VA! A small, one stop light town in Southern Virginia where everyone knows everybody. Being raised in a small town forces you to be open minded. I moved at age 20 and now all i can think about is ways to bring back businesses to my hometown.

Lawrenceville has completely grounded me and i’m forever grateful for the place i call home.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an actress and content creator. Acting has truly taught me to not take anything personal. You have to get used to rejection and still have the drive to go after your dream. I’m currently working on my own projects, some will focus on Afro-Latinx stories. As an afro-latina in this industry I feel that many people won’t cast me as an hispanic character, so I’ve decided to create and put myself and others in those roles.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is filled with so many places and things to do it’s hard to say. I love hanging out at The battery (Braves Stadium). There’s so many great restaurants/bars, you can even take your drinks to go!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
my support system means the works to me. I have to give credit to my mom and my boyfriend. They encourage me daily. My boyfriend is the greatest scene partner. He helps me study lines when it’s time to film, he helps me financially, invests in my dreams, and always reminds me to have faith in myself. As a creative person, having that type of support and dedication from others means a lot.
