We had the good fortune of connecting with Terry Spain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Terry, how do you think about risk?
Taking a risk is huge for me, One of the biggest risks that I took was joining the U.S. Navy. Because of that initial risk, I was able to have a successful career in the military and after retirement, I was able to use what I learned and apply it to my business. You must have a positive mindset when taking a risk, if you start negative chances are you will continue on that same path. I constantly think about all the risks that my ancestors took so that I can reap the benefits today. That’s what keeps me motivated and willing to take a risk.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Terry Spain Consulting (TSC) has over 24 years of top-notch Leadership and Diversity Training. I have trained members of The federal government, the White House, Camp David, and the Naval Academy. I am an Author of a book called “Just Lead” leadership begins with you, as well as an international speaker. I got to where I am because of hard work, dedication,  networking, researching, and staying true to my goals. Although I had the support of family and friends, it was still very difficult. I had to earn the trust of companies and organizations. I often time had to do jobs pro bono just so that I can get my name and my brand out there. Once they saw my abilities, the word spread throughout and my business began to grow. One of the lessons learned with starting my business was utilizing all resources and ask for help, I initially wanted to do everything on my own but that can be overwhelming. Once I discovered that it is best to ask for help, my days became a lot smoother. I want the world to know that Terry Spain Consulting is a business that is designed to help leaders such as yourself become better. We do this by offering an array of training in Diversity and Inclusion, Leadership, and Team Building. Once you have gone through one of our training sessions you will officially be #SpainTrained.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my parents for molding me into the man that I am today. They inspired me to be a higher me. My wife and daughter have been my biggest cheerleaders I appreciate them. My family and friends have been extremely supportive and I would like to thank them all.  Last but certainly not least, I would like to thank God for giving me this vision and drive to keep going.
