We had the good fortune of connecting with Geesus Shuttlesworth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Geesus, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is authenticity. Everything became more fluid for me when I leaned more into who I am and what came the most natural. The fun part, especially with music, is creatively making it sound cool.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love to think of myself as such pure artist and I have a couple uniquely paired crafts that I am equally serious about. I think I am the only artist who paints and makes music on the level I do, and I’m very excited to use 2021 to really put my best foot forward with both. Although my journey is just truly beginning, even getting to where I am now wasn’t easy, but it was natural. I walked away from a promising basketball career to pursue a career as a full time artist summer 2019, so adjusting to the real world has been the biggest challenge. But I want the world to look at me and see someone who didn’t settle, who didn’t skips steps in their craft, who really did what it took to get what they wanted out of this life. I want people to see a true artist who didn’t quit, and is free because of it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The pandemic stripped me of the time I would have done the most exploring in NYC, but I would take them to the studio to meet my friends and fellow artists I worked closely with. And there are probably of a lot of things we’d both be experiencing for the first time like restaurants around the city, art museums, bars, shopping, etc.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I could name who have played a very significant role in my story. I don’t want to leave anyone out, so just for now I want to shoutout one of my most dear friends, Ashlee White, who helped me get the opportunity to speak on this platform. But everyone who has had my back along the way, they know who they are, and they know I have theirs as well.
