We had the good fortune of connecting with Deminicus McKinnon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deminicus, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The important factor behind the success of Steaksawse is that each person sticks to their strongest ability. I don’t try to do what Kingpin Da’ Composer or LJ1S does and they don’t try to do what I do. Now that’s not to say that we don’t use some of each other’s techniques but we still use them in our on style. We push each other even on days we may not feel like creating. Most of all we are continuously learning new things. We will always be a student to the game.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is my unique bounce. I followed and studied how Timbaland did what he does and incorporated that into my sound. I can truly say that you will know a “Sunny Dizzle” beat when you hear it. I got to where I am today by literally producing everyday in some sort of capacity. Practicing new techniques, doing remixes to popular songs, and battling other producers. Doing anything I could to get better at my craft is what I did. It definitely was not easy dealing with people in the beginning telling me that I should do this or do that, where I should go to school, ect. Not realizing none of these people have had the success or blueprint to follow themselves. Everybody can tell you how to do it but they never did it. It wasn’t until I told myself to simply do things my way for me to see the results I wanted.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my Steaksawe brothers Kingpin Da’ Composer and LJ1S for helping reshape my sound and giving me a new purpose with my music. Without them I would be in a never ending loop of mediocrity. I also want to shoutout Souljah Cee, Equire, Bay, and BIg Moe for introducing my to the world of music production. They got me into making beats and recording.
