We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Blassingame and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I am a professional organizer. When many people think about organizing, they often believe that everything must be Pinterest-ready or MarieKondo-ed in order to be organized. And this belief often leads to procrastination for those who desire to be organized. A professional organizer helps to create systems and routines that will assist others to get organized and maintain it. The system is created to match the needs of the individual and/or their family. There are also many specialties among professional organizers. There are closet designers, general home organizers, productivity and time-management organizers, financial organizers, organizers that specialize in hoarding, etc. I specialize in student and family organization. My goal is to help families with organized solutions for home, work, and school.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Simple Organization to provide organizing and productivity strategies to help others develop a more organized approach to home, work, and school. As a divorced parent of a teenage son and a school administrator, I understand the delicate balance between raising children, progressing toward personal goals, working in your career, and being a good steward to others and to yourself. It sometimes feels impossible to keep it all together! Simple Organization is designed to offer strategies to help busy adults and their families go from chaos to calm by achieving wellness through organization and productivity. My varied experience as an educator makes it natural for me to specialize in student organization. My specialties include working with families of elementary, middle, and high school students as well as college students and educators. My primary areas of interest include work-life harmony, productivity coaching, and divorce recovery. The quality that is most important to the success of my brand is my servant approach to coaching, teaching, listening, and caring. I seek to help others make progress through compassion and listening and taking the small steps to achieve a larger goal.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let me start by saying that travel is a form of self-care for me. Being able to disconnect and explore is how I implement pauses in each week, month, and year. That said, I would take a visiting friend to Jeju Sauna in Duluth. We would spend hours (even overnight!) at Jeju experiencing their salon services, hot and cold saunas, Asian food, pool, and wet saunas. My favorite service is the foot reflexology massage that is always an instant way to destress. We would leave Jeju Sauna refreshed and rejuvenated!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my business partners of Ebony & Orderly. Ebony & Orderly is a group of six prominent Black organizers in the Atlanta area. We are organizers with our own businesses and specialize in varied areas of professional organizing. We have worked together for the past few years supporting each other with clients, providing an annual Get Organized conference each January, and offering speaking engagements to the community. My son, Josh, is also a huge reason that I specialize in student organization. Being a mom to him has taught me that when there are systems and routines for organization at home, then there is much more time to spend as a family and doing things that we enjoy (instead of having lost time searching for misplaced items or forgetting things that need to be done).
