We had the good fortune of connecting with Eva Jane Bunkley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eva Jane, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As I parent, I have endeavored to raise sons who are compassionate, kind and confident. I have tried to model this behavior in all interactions they witness as they see me walk through life. As far as pursuing my business endeavors, I hope that I have showed them that the only limits they have are ones that are self-imposed. I have structured my businesses and my goals around parenting as well as entrepreneurship so that I can be as present in their daily lives as much as possible. On the outside this may be perceived as limiting in some way to the growth of my business but witnessing them mature and flourish is what gives me fulfillment at this stage in my life. I have had my children accompany me to trade shows and I have become a vendor at camps they participate in to be close to them. I intertwine my interests within environments that overlap whenever possible.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Creating fulfills me. Taking nothing and turning it into something is so satisfying. I have not limited my art to one medium. I have been a professional makeup artist since 1993 and after I won my Emmy’s for makeup artistry I began to learn more about the overall media production process. I produced my first feature film entitled, “My Mother was a Butterfly” and it won first place at the Kingdomwood Christian Film Festival in 2008 and screened in several venues after that point. It took three years and a lot of travel to complete the film but it was a personal project so in the process of filming it I was able to connect with family and friends of family that I would not have met outside of taking on such a project. I was able to find and meet my father and his family through making the film and with that create relationships that would have remained undiscovered otherwise. Beauty comes from creating and from daring to ask questions and explore even where discomfort lies. My journey as an inventor was perhaps longer than it needed to be. I was blocked from pursuing my patent by my own fears for many years. I thought it was too big for me to do alone. I thought creating a product was nearly impossible for a “creative” who didn’t like administrative tasks. I talked myself out of starting such a business until I could no longer resist the voice in my heart. The nagging would not leave me. I knew it was for me to do and to this day, I believe that God blinded the minds of other people until I was ready. I launched “The Makeup Bullet® – HiDef Cosmetic Finger Sponge” to the world in May of 2013 and it proceeded to make waves all over the world. It graced fingers and enhanced faces in countries I will never physically visit. Releasing that beautiful black little pointed piece of foam into the world blew my own mind and killed any doubts I ever had of what is possible when we move doubt aside and get out of our own way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I first moved to Atlanta, I lived in Midtown and I would eat at EATS on Ponce several times a week. I still go in when I drive through town and love that I can still greet a lot of my peeps by name 🙂 If the Braves or Stripers are playing, going to a baseball game is definitely my thing. I absolutely LOVE that we are a baseball town. We could even go up to Cobb County to watch younger kids playing travel ball on one of the many fields. I also love taking photos and there are great murals and nooks outside between downtown and Buckhead that are great backdrops for lasting memories. A classic is the Jackson Street Bridge! Sunday we would likely go to Buckhead Church which has been my family’s spiritual home for many years. It is a peaceful hour that always leaves me feeling inspired. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many that were placed in my life to get me to where I am. The main person would be my “Grammy,” Mrs. Georgia Walker Smith who raised me. She was 70 when she took full custody of me when I was six after the passing of my mother and her husband. I had “God-Mothers” as well in women named Sandra, Glenda and Wanda who were lovely examples of Godliness, integrity, grace, kindness and character. I do endeavor to make them all proud and I see passing along inspiration as an act of service. So, to the person reading these words: Perhaps there is a desire in your heart that you have been hesitant to pursue; Failure isn’t the worst thing you can do. Not trying is. If you possess the desire then you possess the ability within yourself as well. Philippians 2:13. Blessings – Eva Jane
