We had the good fortune of connecting with Assata Salim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Assata, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Entrepreneurship runs through my blood. On the flip side, I’m one of those people who works a 9-5 while also working to establish a successful business. My goal is to transition to full entrepreneurship, to earn what I’m worth and to obtain financial freedom. My experience as an employee is what fuels my drive and shapes my thought process. Every successful business identifies a problem and works to resolve that problem. Legacy, problem solving, and financial freedom are terms that summarize my thought process behind starting a business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
October High Agency is my full service marketing, brand management and creative solutions firm. We provide creative solutions to everyday needs and challenges that your business may experience. This can be done through digital campaigns, content creation, or events. I’m most proud of our growth this year, adding new staff and expanding the brand into retail. January 2021 we launched October’s Closet, a trendy clothing boutique for children. Our business journey has not been easy but it has been consistent and I’m super proud to be able to adjust and move with the punches.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Atlanta so we would have a BLAST! First stop, the Atlanta Selfie Museum. Because, who doesn’t love a good selfie?!?! Plus it’s a great way to make photo memories. Next stop, Rock Steady, the most amazing Caribbean inspired upscale restaurant in the city. The whole place is a vibe, you can literally eat and then go upstairs to the lounge and kick it! It’s a win if you love food, ambiance, and a good DJ. If you’re intown on a Sunday then of course we have to do brunch at Garden Parc! We’d also check out some night life locations like Rose Bar and eat at Ponce City Market, Apartment 4B and maybe even Calabar.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is in 3 parts. Part one is a book entitled “Unlocking The Queen Code” by Molesey Crawford. It’s an interactive journal about moving past fears and unlocking your full potential. Part 2 of my shoutout is dedicated to Karma Soul Doctor, the wellness coach who introduced me to this book and so many other gems that have helped me throughout my personal and professional life. Last but not least I have to big up my MOMMIE! She’s my rock!
