We had the good fortune of connecting with Semira Sawyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Semira, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since we have last talked, I have formed my own business named Mira Mira on Air LLC that doubles as a digital marketing and production company. The thought process behind starting my own business really started during the pandemic. It was. a couple months before my college graduation when the world health organization declared Covid-19 a pandemic. Which ultimately change everything. From job offers, to after college plans, and travel plans everything changed. A lot of media and marketing companies had ceased all productions until 2021 which meant there was no need for any new help. That’s when it clicked in my mind instead of waiting for one of these Fortune 500 companies to notice me, why don’t I begin to build an empire of my own. I already had the five plus years of experience in Journalism, Public Relations and Marketing. I just took everything that I learned over the years and applied to my business plan. Thus Mira Mira on Air was born.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is I don’t have a large team of people that I am depending on to help me run my business. This is currently a one (Wo)man show. Everything that I know as of today was either self-taught or learned during the course of my internships and networking with people that are already in the industry that I am in. Right now I currently offer: photoshoots, video-shoots, web design, logos, social media marketing, business cards, creative directing, commercials, product shoots,LLC formations, and more. For a full list of my services you can always check out my website www.miramiraonair.com where I am constantly updating my list of services as needs changes for my clients. I am most excited about my new segment that I will be featuring soon on my website called Small Business Saturdays. Where every Saturday I will be highlighting a minority owned business that is doing big things. I wanted to give business owners a different opportunity to show case their products and services on a different platform and still be given the chance to network and connect with others. The journey to get where I am today has definitely not been an easy one, and I would like to say that the journey is still on going. You have to be prepared to take the long route on your business journey, success doesn’t come overnight,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first place I would take them would be to brunch at J. Christopher’s on Buckhead, Atlanta. Any one who knows me knows that I am a huge foodie so an array of restaurants would be on the list. Another stop on the list would be the Atlanta Contemporary Art Museum. This museum is super cool because it is an exhibit that is always free that features many artist across the Atlanta area. Another stop on the iternary would be the Georgia Aquarium. If you have visited Atlanta and haven’t been to the aquarium you are missing out. It is one of the biggest aquariums in the country and is currently building a new exhibit that will be done shortly. Another stop on the list would have to be Piedmont Park. I love going here to get a nice view of the sky line while either visiting the dog park or just walking around the midtown area. The last stop on my list would be having dinner at Fogo de Chao which is an upscale Brazilian steak house that I love to go to. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m probably one of the few people who does not have a huge fan base or group of people behind me however, that will change over time. Who I do have pushing me and motivating me every day first is God. The second person who helped me bring my vision to life and always pushes me to be the best version of myself is my Grandmother better known as Grammy. I can truly say without those two people Mira Mira on Air LLC would still be an idea stuck inside of my sketch book.
