We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachael Popovici and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachael, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is that if there is a will, there is a way. I was so discouraged when I began by business with few to none of my friends, family, and colleagues taking me serious or even encouraging my pursuit of photography. When I would share things in regards to my photos lots of people often changed the subject or had negative words to share. Naturally I began to distance myself from negative people and find other creatives who understood my passion and struggles. I had to push myself to follow my passion because no one else was going to. I got my very first client by going downtown and stopping by every shop and asking if they needed photos. After spending a couple hours hearing ‘no’ I stumbled upon a business owner who wanted family photos. Long story short, I never sat back and hoped clients would find me. I spent hours asking local businesses, messaging random people online, and NEVER giving up on myself. I was working full time M-F, while doing photoshoots on the weekends. I pulled way over 60 hours a week and trudged through with my goals. 5 Years later I am doing wedding photography and enjoy every minute of it. I am in the mist of transitions to Weddings full time and pushing myself to put the hours in to make this dream by career.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart? I think all humans are beautiful and I try to go the extra mile to making everyone feel beautiful and confident in front of the camera. I am most proud of the fact that couples of different races, sexuality, and ages come to me because “lots of photographers don’t look like they work with couples like us”. This breaks my heart that couples don’t even feel comfortable reaching out to specific photographers of fear that the photographer wouldn’t exclude them because they don’t fit their “ideal look”. My couples choose me because I celebrate all couples’ love. I’m so so excited for the couples that have booked with me and that I get to spend their wedding day with!!! I am truly honored to be part of the special day!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly my favorite spot is anywhere we can grab a cup of coffee, sit and chat. I’m a homebody in the sense that I love feeling comfy and not having to dress up. I enjoy talking and hearing about your day, your week, and what you got going on in life. I can tell you where the best coffee shops are! Let’s talk!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my partner who truly was my only support when I began my business and who continues to push me everyday. I cannot express the importance of cutting out toxic people who don’t support and encourage your dreams and I am thankful for him.
