We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by God and serving others. I firmly believe that God is the source of all things and that our purpose on this earth, is to serve one another. I do this by being available and attentive to the needs of those I come in contact with. In addition, I try my best to maintain a positive demeanor and volunteer my time, talent, and support to the church, my family, friends and those in need. My motto in life is to “move in purpose, on purpose”. It is such a gratifying feeling to know that something I did for someone, and sharing the word of God could impact their lives and generations to come. These things are the foundation on which my faith-based apparel business 1 God Tees, LLC exists. Its purpose is to create encouraging messages that will inspire others, spread positivity, and share the spirit/word of God one t-shirt at a time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in education for 10 plus years, and I am currently working at The Kindezi Schools at the Old Fourth Ward location. I started at Kindezi in January 2020. So as you can imagine as soon as I got acclimated to my new job, Covid-19 hit, and as you may already know, the schools went virtual from that point on. While it has been challenging to teach online, it has definitely been a rewarding experience to watch the students adapt and lock in, and take ownership of their education. The excitement a student expresses when they grasp a new or difficult task is one of the greatest feelings ever.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am really big on food. So, we are definitely going to eat good. A few of my favorite places to eat are Don Sige(East Point), Busy Bee(MLK), Hattie Maries(College Park), Big Daddys(Campbellton Rd), I could literally go all day. So we would check those out, then we would head to the beltline and the battery. There is nothing like being outside during the summer in Atlanta. Plus, both places have good food as well. Lastly, I would make my way to Kat’s Cafe or anywhere there is some live music. I love a good live band.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It is actually a few people. I would like to shoutout a good friend of mine, Jason Stewart. He’s a really dope artist. Monique Baisden is a great spirit lead creative, who’s participating in a lot of wonderful production projects. Brandon Lightfoot, he’s a mentor and just an overall great man who is doing awesome things in the Atlanta community and leading people do amazing works of God with his movement called “theREACH.” Lastly, my guy Antonio Benton BKA Big Boi AJ, just started a business called “Da Snck Bar.” All I can say is the food is very good. I visit atleast once a week.
