We had the good fortune of connecting with Eduardo Rubio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eduardo, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The importance of a good website when it comes to your business! When it comes to small/medium sized businesses, I frequently see websites that are probably doing more to drive users away from the business than it does to draw users in. It’s a totally different era of brand management, especially now during COVID, where your digital first impression is such a vital one – if not the only one! The difficult part is understanding what makes a website useful for getting people to trust your business. Sure, the design and how pretty your site has a lot to do with it, but there’s so much more that can slide into the periphery when businesses don’t take their website seriously. Maybe you’re missing some SEO value in the content you decide to publish or maybe your layout doesn’t organically guide your visitors into actionable events (think about how easy it is to buy things on amazon – sometimes you’ll be getting to the checkout page and not even realize it!). In a world where ~75% of consumers make judgements on a company’s credibility solely based on the website design (seriously!), it’s more important now than ever to really invest in your website. I’m confident it will pay dividends!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Web Muse Studio, is a website design and development business. Our primary focus is to serve small to medium sized businesses who we think have untapped potential when it comes to their digital presence. We’re unique in the sense that, as a team, we didn’t all come from a computer science background. We have members who came from graphic design backgrounds, decades of CAD modeling experience, and even former business owners. What we all have in common is that we see websites as more than just a requirement for your business. We see websites as a powerful asset to your company that, when designed well, can be like your own 24/7 top performing sales person! It’s been a really fun and exciting process, and I’m incredibly proud to say that both my parents are now on board at Web Muse Studio. COVID has challenged a lot of people with job insecurity and my parents were unfortunately not an exception. Deciding to meet those tribulations, both my parents jumped into learning everything they could about web development. Recently, we had a great moment when I was stumped on a website I was working on and couldn’t figure it out. My mom walked over and I talked to her about my issue and after some trial and error, she solved my problem. At that moment, I knew both my parents were ready to jump in and be a part of the team. Sure enough, they’ve been making some great work and it’s been amazing to see the passion and excitement exuding from their everyday learnings and growth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely tell them to wait until COVID goes on vacation because Atlanta just isn’t the same! COVID aside, I would begin the day with some brunch from somewhere like Folkart or Cultivate. Their fried chicken and waffles are actually insane. Walk around the beautiful city, maybe get some coffee at Cafe Intermezzo, and then head over to Slutty Vegan for a late lunch. Piedmont Park is definitely a next stop to see millions of dogs and maybe top it off with a visit to the High Museum of Art. Finally, I’d finish with some dinner before heading to see some live music at a concert (Mac Ayres if you’re reading this, please perform at Atlanta again, thank you). The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is an incredibly long list of people who have directly contributed to where I’m at today. Ryan and Carlos, my leads when I interned at Red Ventures, poured a huge amount of information and mentorship in the short months I had the pleasure to work with them. Hugh Hunter, a then career services advisor at my university, who helped me immensely in finding scholarships to fund my education. Dr. Andy Digh and Dr. Andrew Pounds, two of my frequent computer science professors, who challenged me every day (which would often turn into late nights) to grow and learn to love my craft. Of course, my parents who relentlessly provide guidance and love no matter what crazy ideas I have going on. And, my girlfriend, Emily, who is and always has been a source of deep inspiration and support. The list goes on and my journey isn’t complete. Regardless of it all, these people and all the unnamed people who have helped and supported me have forever impacted me and I am inexplicably grateful.
