We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Rae Howard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
Absolutely! I just finished “ Leave your Mark” by Aliza Licht, and it’s hands down my favorite book I’ve picked up in a long time. In a competitive industry such as the beauty industry, it helped me compartmentalize and focus on each relationship that walks through my door, focus on my own personal growth with grace & honesty, and excel not only at the best skill level at what I do…but being a more thoughtful human along the way. We as business owners can get so lost in engagement with social media platforms, and this book helped me remember to celebrate myself along the way. It’s a healthy dose of real talk in a woman’s working world. We are only here once, and I want to leave a legacy with each head of hair I touch. My salon motto is “ I pray we touch your hearts before we touch your hair” and this book reiterated how crucial love is behind a business, and also taught me how to handle things with more self control as a owner.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So the good Lord blessed my fingers with the steady hand to pin amazing updos, and balayage very skillfully. The industry I am in, is constantly changing and evolving, and if you don’t grow with it, you will be like sinking sand. I have covered surrounding states for wedding hair & makeup on brides special days, and have over 250 career weddings. In the south, there are salons and churches on every corner. I wanted to open a boutique small scale salon, that doesn’t loose its sparkle as it grows. It wasn’t easy, but well worth it! Often times people feel they have to go big or go home, and that’s not always the case. I’ve been fortunate to watch my business grow beyond what I ever imagined only having 5 girls under my roof or 1200 square feet. I don’t know of another salon with 42 pounds of holographic glitter floors. My vision is energetic like me, and I want everyone to have a electric connected experience with us! Skill is crucial, but being invested in your customers life is so important. They pour into my business and my stylists, the least I can do is be invested in them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First I would take them to Iron Bank coffee downtown. I love how you can sit outside or inside, and their menu and assortment is my favorite! Secondly, I would shimmy on over to Country’s BBQ for their famous sweet tea, barbecue, fresh veggies, and fried chicken fingers. I truly just enjoy walking around downtown at all the shops during the weekend, but my favorite place is Old Town. I have never enjoyed living somewhere so much, and we would probably ride our golf cart to Moreton’s for dinner! It’s beautifully lit up, and is the perfect place for families and pets. They have amazing craft cocktails, a dinner menu that changes regularly, and wonderful desserts!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My DAD Bobby Howard! He’s got the most impressive resume I’ve ever seen or heard, and has been recognized as the top high-school baseball coach in our country. He’s had numerous state championships, hit over 1000 career wins, and was inducted into the baseball hall of fame. He’s watched Frank Thomas who is family to us, get inducted and speak of how monumental their relationship was on and off the field, and the work ethic he instilled in so many players makes me so proud. It wasn’t always easy growing up with a tough coach, but he he pushed me past my comfort levels and he’s always someone you want in your corner. That’s what I strive to be. I knew I was born to lead. No owner or TEAM can make it without amazing assistant coaches & teammates behind them. I’m just called to “coach” or bring them to their full potential. ( Of course if they are willing). No growth ever happens in comfort, and when I had to face something personal I had no choice but to go up from there. He’s taught me even if I strike out, to get back up and hit a home run next time at bat. I’m fortunate to have him as my dad, but also my best friend.
