We had the good fortune of connecting with Daedrea Fenwick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daedrea, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authenticity. I created a game that I actually enjoy playing. My customers are people who are like me, so they relate to me. When I advertise my product, it’s not a hard sell because I genuinely created something that people enjoy.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I created my business during a global pandemic, so let’s start there. It all started on my birthday in 2020. I invited a few friends and family to celebrate my big day at a local karaoke lounge in Atlanta. To make things more interesting, I decided to have everyone pull a card and select a song to sing based on the categories like “a song that reminds you of middle school.” My friends and family loved it, and the idea for Kulture Karaoke was born. Even so, I did not know if people would actually want to buy it. But one I launched, they did, and I sold out of my first shipment of games in only a week. That’s when I knew, I had a great product. My business is only a few months old, but it is already profitable and growing. I am excited to continue to expand the brand.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of the things, I love most about Atlanta is there is always something to do. Where we would go depends on the season, but let’s assume it was summertime (and pre or post Covid). We’d have to catch an exhibit at the High Museum, dinner at my favorite Atlanta restaurant, Chops, and some fun at Roofline Park in Ponce City Market. I love brunch, so we would probably stop at Negril Village, before spending some time at a festival at Piedmont Park. I would also take them to the Ferris Wheel and Centennial Olympic park, before catching a Braves game or Atlanta United match.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I first have to shout out my family. I have the best husband, most amazing baby girl, and the most supportive family. I would not be who I am without them. Also my closest friends are the most supportive people ever, and they keep me encouraged. And a special shout out to my Whine and Cheese tribe. This group of women are so special to me. We laugh together, we cry together, and most importantly, we cheer for each other.
