We had the good fortune of connecting with Black Girls’ Eat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Black Girls’ Eat, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We wanted to shine a light on local restaurants in the Golden Triangle Area in Mississippi to give reviews on our food experiences. From that we wanted to create a line of apparel to uplift and support black culture.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are five women from various places who met in Columbus, Mississippi. We love food so much that we wanted to share our food experiences with others. What sets us apart is that we desire to bring light to black owned businesses in the food world. We are most proud of the apparel that we have created for women, men and children that esteem the black community. It took a lot of trial and error to get to where we are now. With the help of Nia & Nike (Social Media Managers) we were able to create a plan to be consistent with our content and create organic community with our followers. One difficulty we have is picking a place to eat. Imagine having to do that with five women lol!! We found a solution to that problem by connecting with other food bloggers and downloading the app Hungry for the Culture (tells you where all the Black Owned Restaurants & Food Trucks are located). We have learned that consistency with our content, and creating organic community is important in building a platform that will highlight the beauty of black culture.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So here’s the itinerary we will start in Houston, TX with the Breakfast Klub and get their amazing eggs, grits, and pancakes. They legit have some of the most amazing staff! For lunch we would take them to Lost and Found so they can try their well known Lamb Chops with their cheesy Macaroni. For a little dessert we would take them to Cinnaholic, to introduce them to the best Gourmet Vegan Cinnamon Rolls ever. For dinner we would take them to the infamous Turkey Leg Hut, to try the Turkey Leg of course!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Black Girls Eat DC deserves recognition because they supported us in the beginning stages of us establishing our brand and continue to do so. Another person that we would love to acknowledge is Auntie Loren; she believed in us and always showed love to us as well.
