We had the good fortune of connecting with Travis Wilder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Travis, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was utilizing my mix of creativity, coupled with my Faith to create a unique brand that glorifies God, but also create fashionable everyday pieces that you can wear with your wardrobe. My partner and I both grew up as Preacher’s kid’s, so God has always been a part of our lives. We put God first in everything we do, so the actual formation of the business was fairly easy. Lastly, we’re real big on ownership and leaving a legacy for our kids. Ownership is key.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business is called C&T 413 LLC. Under that umbrella, we operate God Got Me lifestyle brand, and Spiritual Sports Socks, a custom sock brand. What sets us a part from other brands is that we incorporate God in our brands first and foremost. We strive to mix our Faith with Swag to create one of kind pieces with our trademarked logo. Also, with the sock brand, we give the customer the paint brush so to speak and let them create their one of a kind pairs of socks. We got where we are today business wise by research, trial and error, and grinding. My partner and I conversate everyday on how we can make our brand better and how we can become more efficient. I wouldn’t say it has necessarily been easy, but it hasn’t been hard either. We are striving everyday to put systems in place to make the business run smoother. We overcome challenges by going thru the fire. There has been a lot of trial and error and learning from our mistakes and we are still learning everyday. The learning curve is all apart of the process. We want the world to know that we are a brand that pushes love and God. We have love for all mankind regardless of sex, creed or ethnic background. We are a black owned company for everybody. If you love God and have Faith in God, then our brand is for you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to the Motown Museum in Downtown Detroit, I would take them to our 3 casinos located in the heart of downtown Detroit. I would take them to some of my favorite restaurants in my city, such as Flood’s Bar and Grill and Sweetwater Tavern. Lastly, I would take them to some small businesses around my city to showcase the great talent and brands that we have coming out of Detroit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out my parents. They deserve all of the credit in the world for first raising me to be a model citizen. They laid the foundation of success for me at a fairly early age. They were great role models who introduced me to Christ at a young age. That has been my constant in life which has never failed me. When things aren’t going my way or I am faced with a tough decision, I know how to fall to my knees and pray and ask God to take control and that is all because of my upbringing by my parents. Additionally, I want to shoutout to all of our loyal customers/supporters. Without “them”, there is no “us”. We have repeat customers who order every time we drop a new collection/product. Even the social media likes, shares, and posts never go unnoticed. It is important to continue to build relationships with our customers as we strive to make God Got Me and Spiritual Sports Socks household names.
