We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenise Etwaru and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenise, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Building wealth and leaving a legacy takes years of smart decisions physically, emotionally, mentally, professionally, spiritually and financially. Over the course of my life, I have focused on being successful. Being successful doesn’t mean that I will not have time where I would lose, but taking those times that didn’t work in my favor as a learning experience. Over time, I have learnt the following habits from my parents and mentors who have exemplified these habits which I have taken as my own in order to help me on my success journey. #1. Wake Up Early – how you begin your day will set your day either in order or in chaos. I begin at 5:55am everyday with prayer and reading the Word of God. That’s what I do to get my day focused and ready for whatever may come my way. You only have one opportunity to set your day in order, begin early. #2. READ. I read a lot. I love to read and write, but I reading is exhilarating to me. My goal is to read one book (regardless of how long or short it may be) per month. I read books that are tied into my goals and vision, so it adds value to my success. #3. Journaling. I journal every day. I write my goals/visions and plans. Sometimes, I even draw them (depending on my mood). This is a daily task. I never skip it. This allows me to add my vision/thoughts/goals/plans to paper so that I can visualize it. Make the Vision Plain!!! #4. Network = NetWorth. Yes…I have learnt the habit of dropping individuals who do not bring any value to my life. I have few friends, but the friends I do have are extremely valuable. They are #priceless. If you’re going to succeed, you must align yourself with individuals that are more successful that you. Now, I’m not talking about being a leech, but you need to surround yourself with individuals that do not view you as their competition, but thrive to collaborate with you. #5. Focus. Focus on what you spend time on. If you want to build successful habits that will allow you to be prosperous, you can’t spend your time on “time wasters”. Time is more precious than money, because if you lose money, you can always work to get it back. Once you lose time, there’s absolutely no way you can redeem it. Do not allow time-wasters such as watching T.V. all day, binging on Netflix, scrolling on social media and playing video games to take away from your success. It’s easy for me to stray and do mindless tasks at times, but I quickly have to pull myself back into a focused position. There are times during the week, which I do work on self-care and do things that’s fun; however, I don’t spend 7 days per week / 12 hours per day shopping online and scrolling through IG or TikTok. I create a set time to do that and limit myself, because I can easily get carried away. Make a deliberate effort to focus on what your end game is. I hope you can use one or all of these habits to help change the trajectory of your life, family and/or business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
There are 3 things that set me apart from my competition when it comes to my coaching and publishing business. (1) My story (2) My expertise (3) My value Creating wealth for others is the reason why I am successful in my business ventures. No, it was not easy, but it has been fulfilling. Helping others win is the key to being successful. I overcame my challenges by focusing on others and not on me. H.O.P.E. = Help Other People Everyday. It works! I would like the world to know that my coaching techniques deliver results in the lives of people that can been seen from day one. I focus on making the natural YOU into the successful YOU. Many individuals try so hard to be like people they see on T.V. or IG and desire their lives; but we all are uniquely made. I hone into the masterpiece and genuineness of who you are and build on that. I do the same with my ALEA Publishing business. Working with first time authors and book collaborations is my niche. We are a leading publishing company that delivers first hand guidance through the entire process. Every Author is treated as family. That’s the value and difference we provide that is different from our competition.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, New York is one of the nations hot spots. I love living in New York because I get the best of both the worlds I love. I love the hustle and bustle of the city, but I also love the beautiful beaches and environment of the Hamptons. So, if my friend were to visit me, this would be my agenda. Day 1: Hang out in the city. Have brunch in Dumbo, Brooklyn and then head to the city for the best shopping spree ever. We would then head to Restaurant Row and have dinner before entering into one of our amazing Broadway theatres to see Hamilton or The Phantom of the Opera. Day 2: We would pack a picnic basket and drive out to the end of Long Island to see the Montauk Lighthouse. We definitely want to climb up to the top of the lighthouse and take some amazing pictures. We would have our picnic on the lawn overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. We would then drive into the little town and have some ice cream at one of the local creameries for dessert. Then, we would head to one of the many beautiful beaches that surround Long Island to spend the rest of day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, there’s a host of individuals that I would love to shout out. Let me start with my parents. Pastors Lionel & Margaret are the reason why I am here on this planet. They are truly inspiring. I have both of their genes, so I think I’m perfect LOL. My sister, Dr. Delene Musielak, is outstanding. She’s my one and only sister and she’s younger than me, but she’s a beast when it comes to pushing me to my limit. She’s my sounding board. My church family. WOW! Having a corporate setting like my church of people who are always praying for me and concerned with my well being is truly amazing. They all deserve a HUGE shout out and standing ovation!!
