Meet Mynor Urrutia | Hospitality and DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mynor Urrutia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mynor, what makes you happy? Why?
The people in my life make me the happiest. It sounds corny but if you ask anyone that’s really in my life they’ll tell you how much I value community. It’s probably one of the most important pillars of life and I feel like we forget that a lot. I could be with my people almost everyday.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve lived a few lives in this creative journey. I was part of a social media group back in the day and that’s what got me into the digital creative world. I had my fun with it but I got burned out of it for many reasons. Although I stepped away from that group I’ve always kind of had an avenue of creativity. I’ve done jokes, word games , skits, gym content, fashion content and now here I am in the music world. Guess I’m more creative than I give myself credit for now that I think about it. It’s funny cause I would always tell my friends I didn’t want to learn to DJ. Now I own deck and mix every chance I get. When I mix I mix purely off emotion and instinct. There’s no rehearsed sets, I don’t even use headphones half the time. I mix because it brings me joy and it’s one of my biggest creative outlets. The people I’ve met and the things I’ve done along the way are an awesome bonus. As long as it’s fun I know I’ll continue to love it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First thing I always think about when traveling is the food so definitely gotta hit up Buford highway a few times. Top 3 for me there are Arepa Grill, El Rey Del taco and northern China eatery. In terms of where we’d hang out I’d say we hit the belt line, spend some time in Piedmont, krog street hit their food hall. There’s a theme here. Nighttime is a little different. I’m either ending up at Palo Santo(rip), district, underground, odyssey or all of the above in one night. For recovery we getting okiboru the next day. I’m now taking ramen joint recommendations. Maybe hit the High museum, I like me a good museum day here and there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want a give a special shoutout to my family and friends. My community is a big motivation behind my success. Not just my current community but also the one we are building as a part of SPM. You’ve had Niko on here so you know about Sexy People Music. When our friend, basically brother, Kenny, came to us with this idea about doing what we’ve basically been doing as a family ourselves but in a larger level with a sound that we’ve fallen in love with I jumped at the idea to be a part of it. SPM isn’t the reason I started DJing but it opened the door for me to do the hobby I had discovered I actually liked snd I’d say am pretty good at and run with it. And to all the people I’ve met along the way, love.
