Meet Dejá Gibson | Makeup Artist and Beauty Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dejá Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dejá, how do you define success?
I define success as having the ambition to pursue your dreams consistently enough for them to become your reality. I believe that success comes from the recognition of your own efforts and finding contentment in your accomplishments even if things do not come to fruition in ways you initially idealized.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a makeup artist with specializations in beauty, editorial, and fantasy. I have always seen life through a lens of creativity and find inspiration in the smallest details of my environments. I started practicing makeup at 16 years old and have been in love with the artistry ever since. I started my journey by first dedicating myself to practicing creative eyeshadow looks every single day and eventually decided to make content on social media in hopes of inspiring people like me and sharing my creative lens with the world. I became a freelance makeup artist fresh out of high school and dedicated any time that I wasn’t working with clientele to practicing and recording my technique as well as collaborating with models and other creatives in the Atlanta area. I am currently a makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics and have truly started to grow a loyal clientele. Getting to this place in my career, however, was not easy. There have been many times that I have been hypercritical of my own efforts and have felt hesitation to share my art in fear that it wasn’t good enough. Having the encouragement and support of loved ones definitely encourages me everyday to keep striving regardless of how things seem. I want the world to see the beauty of unconventionality through my brand and story. I want others like me to see that life isn’t a “one size fits all” situation and is more of a path that you choose make your own.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite spots to have outings in around the Atlanta area is Ponce City Market. There is perfect versatility of dining options, shopping, and scenery to enjoy throughout the area.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Skull Asylum FX Studio was a big contribution to my knowledge, technique, and success as a makeup artist. I feel that I was taken under their wing and able to explore an almost completely new side of makeup artistry that inspires me to want to learn new things altogether.
