Meet Pamela Mackie Mackie | MS Marriage and Family Therapist GA, NY and NJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Mackie Mackie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pamela Mackie, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
It’s never too late to chase your passion and purpose. Dr. Ellen Langer wisely said, ‘Instead of adding more years to your life, add more life to your years.’ At 55, I made the bold choice to pivot and change careers—and it turned out to be the best decision I could’ve made. Fear of failure once held me back, and for too long, I listened to others’ opinions rather than following my own path. But success isn’t defined by titles or money. It’s about finding joy and fulfillment in the work you do—and that’s what truly makes you rich.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The greatest source of pride in my career has been my journey from retail corporate executive to mental health practitioner. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I made a bold transition after retiring from Bloomingdale’s as Director of Cosmetics Staffing. Following 30 years in retail, I returned to college—having earned my Bachelor of Science in Business more than three decades earlier—to pursue a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. The path toward licensure has been long and challenging, but deeply rewarding. I have never looked back, as I find true fulfillment and joy in this work.
My story is not extraordinary, but rather the outcome of intentional choices. I am passionate about relational mental health care that supports individuals across the lifespan—from adolescents to older adults—as well as couples and families. I believe that our capacity to thrive is rooted in our relationships, shaped by culture, environment, community, and lived experience. As a Prepare/Enrich Certified Facilitator, Grief Counselor, and Life Coach, my therapeutic focus includes, but is not limited to, concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and relational conflict. My goal is to help clients reframe the narratives that stand in the way of self-actualization and meaningful connection, and to support them in cultivating relationships that foster joy, fulfillment, and love.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to Shout out my supervisors mentors Dr. Candice Cooper-Lovett and Dr. Christiana Awosan. My colleague and friend Angelia Nalls and the great, hardworking team at A New Creation Psychotherapy Services LLC. Also my New York Church Home Emmanuel Baptist Church, and the Turning Point Counseling Ministry.
