We had the good fortune of connecting with WILDY RIFTIAN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi WILDY, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
One of the habits that’s helped me most is making time for passion projects. As creatives, it’s easy to feel stuck in routines, whether at school or a 9-to-5. Side projects give me the space to reset, experiment, and create without pressure. Sometimes that means testing a new technique; other times, it’s bringing a random idea to life.
What I love most is how these projects often lead to unexpected growth. Each one leaves me recharged and motivated, and over time, they’ve turned into some of my strongest portfolio pieces. They stand out because they reflect genuine curiosity and creativity, not obligation. That mix of structured work and personal experimentation is what keeps me growing as an artist.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a multidisciplinary visual designer working at the intersection of design, storytelling, and technology. My journey began in graphic design, branding, and photography, and later expanded into motion design, 3D animation, and creative technology. I love blending mediums because it allows me to create work that feels fresh, impactful, and unrestricted by a single category.
Currently, my focus is on 3D motion graphics and design-driven animation—work that’s not only visually striking but also conceptually thoughtful. A lot of that comes from my background. Growing up in Indonesia, studying in South Korea, and now working in the U.S. have all influenced how I approach design. I often draw from Southeast Asian traditions and storytelling, which adds a distinct voice to my work.
Some projects I’m especially proud of include Flavors of Indonesia: An Illustrated Cookbook and Unity in Diversity: 2024 Calendar, both of which highlight Indonesian culture through a contemporary design lens. On the animation side, Into the Abyss was a milestone. It was my first full 3D character and environment piece and pushed me through the entire animation pipeline, marking a turning point in my growth.
Another highlight is my portfolio website, built with my close friend Agnes Andreayana. Inspired by the idea of an “archive,” it plays with folders, papers, and keychains in a playful yet structured design. The site won Framer’s “Best Visual Design” Award, was featured on over 25 curated platforms, and was recently nominated for an Awwwards Website Design Award, an achievement that still feels surreal.
What matters most to me, though, is creating work that truly connects with people. Whether through cultural storytelling, brand design, or motion graphics, I aim to spark curiosity and build genuine connections. More than anything, I want to keep exploring new ideas while staying rooted in the cultural richness that inspires me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not originally from Atlanta, but having visited a few times, there are places I’d definitely take a friend on their first trip.
First on the list would be the Georgia Aquarium. As one of the largest in the world, it’s home to everything from whale sharks to manta rays, and seeing them up close feels magical no matter your age.
I’d also take them to Centennial Olympic Park, built for the 1996 Olympics. With its fountains, green spaces, and the SkyView Ferris wheel, it’s a great place to stroll around and take in the city.
And of course, the World of Coca-Cola. Yes, it’s touristy, but learning the story of such an iconic brand and sampling Coke flavors from around the globe always makes it worth the visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely wouldn’t be where I am without the support of others.
My family in Indonesia has been my foundation. Even when pursuing art wasn’t considered the “safe” choice, they encouraged me to keep going. My older brother first introduced me to drawing, sparking my love for art, and my mom has been my biggest champion. She was always making sure I had the trust and tools I needed to chase my dreams. Her belief in me continues to push me forward.
I’m also grateful for my longtime friend and collaborator, Agnes Andreayana. Together, we built my portfolio website, and her insight as a designer has taught me the value of having creative partners who truly understand my vision.
I owe so much to my significant other, too. Despite not coming from an art or design background, they have been endlessly patient and supportive. And, of course, to my professors and peers at SCAD. Being surrounded by such a talented, driven community inspires me every day and pushes me to be a better version of myself.
