Meet Shakira Murphy | Writer & Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shakira Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shakira, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is, first, my faith in GOD. Secondly, my relentless drive to be better than I was yesterday. I’m always seeking the next challenge to achieve, and I’m passionate about continuous growth.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is my approach to writing and directing. I write stories based on emotions and/or situations that most people tend to suppress. As humans, we yearn for connections, and there’s no other way to do that but through emotions. So, I am excited to create meaningful experiences through film that connect audiences across the United States.
It was a journey for me to get to where I am today professionally. What shaped me was my time served in the military; it opened my eyes to see who I wanted to show up as every day. It taught me how to work alongside individuals I may not have gotten along with, but still had to get the job done. It taught me how to hold my bearing through tough situations. Which has transferred perfectly into the film industry, be relentless, and get the job done.
I want the world to know that I am passionate about telling authentic stories that resonate with people. I work hard for everything I do because nothing comes easy, and hard work pays off.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still considered new to the area, so I would not know exactly where to take my best friend. What we would do is get on social media and look for the trending spots to have a great time. The only lounges I’ve been to were Fin and Feathers and Salt Seafood Lounge. Two different vibes, but the drinks and food there a pretty good.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give credit to my support system, Ri Stroupe, Michael Murphy, Alva Carter, and all my close friends. Honestly, everyone who has believed in my dream as much as I do, because that is part of what fuels me to keep writing and directing. I also want to thank Pranav Abraham for his support and admiration of my hard work.
