Meet YaaA Universe | Singer, Songwriter and Performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with YaaA Universe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi YaaA, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
In all honesty, I actually fell into it. As a youngster, I grew up around artists. I was influenced by the various music heard being played around me.
I used to freestyle for fun and one day took it seriously because people actually enjoyed my sound to the point where I started to believe in myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is my sound, style, and pattern in the way I write and deliver. I’ve been told my style is unorthodox.
I’m most proud of a song I recorded many years ago. It landed in a box office film. I’ve also had the privilege to work with the late Toots Hibbert (Rest his Soul), which was also a proud moment.
I’d say being pushy, taking criticism, direction, and talent got me to where I am today.
It was easy in the early stages of my career because of my connections to certain people.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way are that business is business and to ensure all your paperwork is intact before recording any music. I’ve also learned that not everyone who says they’re there to help is actually helping for the greater good.
What I want the World to know is I’m YaaA Universe a.k.a Princess Menen and although life has thrown curve balls at me likewise others, I will continue to make soul music.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay! Bestie is in town for a week. She came to shop and eat lol. The first 3 days we are at home, cooking and bonding.
Day 4 we’re going shopping at the nearest outlets like Woodbury Common, visit family, and eat more home cooked food.
Day 5 more shopping for home decor and food stuff.
Day 6 we’re going to a concert or catch a Broadway show.
Day 7 help her finish packing to bring her to the airport, but not before we pick up a black cake (Rum cake) that grandma baked.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out The Most High Creator, My mother, grandmother Forever Young, Auntie Marilyn, my daughter, my brother Pel, Bullzii Marketing LLC, One I Ent, Papa, the late Denroy Morgan, Toots Hibbert and Freckles
