We had the good fortune of connecting with Christen Seguin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christen, how does your business help the community?
In April 2024, my partner and I proudly established Psychiatric Health Specialists (PHS), a nurse practitioner-owned and operated psychiatric clinic located in Cartersville, Georgia. With over 19 years of nursing experience—including 12 years as a nurse practitioner—I have witnessed firsthand the increasing need for accessible, compassionate mental health care.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with individuals and families from a wide range of backgrounds, many of whom have struggled to find timely and affordable mental health services. These experiences have shaped my deep commitment to giving back, particularly to underserved communities like Cartersville, where resources can be limited and the stigma around mental health still exists.
Opening PHS was both a professional goal and a personal calling. Our clinic offers high-quality psychiatric care with a focus on dignity, respect, and long-term wellness. By providing accessible services—such as medication management, therapy referrals, and supportive care—we aim to reduce barriers, improve outcomes, and ultimately enhance the overall well-being of our community.
The impact goes beyond individual care. When people have access to mental health support, families become stronger, workplaces function better, and the community as a whole thrives. We’re not just treating symptoms; we’re helping build a healthier and more empowered community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began my nursing career in Cleveland, Ohio, working as a bedside nurse in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. Driven by a passion for advanced clinical practice and leadership, I pursued a Master of Science in Nursing and became a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner.

My professional journey led me to a role in Trauma Surgery in North Carolina, where I also met my husband. Continuing to advance my education, I completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, with a final scholarly project focused on addressing nursing burnout and fostering resiliency within the profession.

Following the birth of our son, we made the decision to relocate to Georgia. Recognizing a significant gap in mental health resources in the Cartersville community, my partner and I co-founded Psychiatric Health Specialists, with the mission of providing accessible, compassionate, and comprehensive mental health care.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve always enjoyed the energy and excitement of attending live baseball games, and one of my favorite pastimes in the city is spending an evening at Truist Park to watch the Atlanta Braves. I also appreciate exploring Ponce City Market, where I can enjoy a variety of dining options and unique shopping experiences that reflect the vibrant culture of the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to take this opportunity to dedicate my recognition to my husband, family, and close friends, whose unwavering support and belief in me have been instrumental throughout my journey. Their constant encouragement has provided the strength to persevere through challenges and the foundation to achieve meaningful success. I am deeply grateful for their continued presence, inspiration, and influence in both my personal and professional life.
