Hi Jay “4G”, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Many things contributed to me starting my own business. However, the decision that ultimately led me to do so came from some of my favorite predecessors like “T.I.”, “50 Cent” and “Master P. ” Like these successful artists and businessmen, I learned I had to do things on my terms. Especially, if I wanted to be wealthy and successful. After working in Corporate America for numerous years, I eventually learned how expendable I was despite how well I performed. I also learned that they didn’t value me as much as I may have thought. Otherwise, like so many others, I wouldn’t have to fight so hard for something as small as a 3 %-5% annual raise. On the other hand, the companies I was working for were making millions. It occurred to me that these companies were doing what was in their best interests, not mine. Without even realizing it, I was allowing me and my worth to be minimized based on what I was willing to accept. Therefore, I had to change my mindset. I also realized that I was giving these companies the power to not only feed me but to starve me (if they chose to do so) Simply put, I had made these companies my “source” of survival when they were just a “resource.” God was my “source.” I changed my mindset and began to focus more on my god given talents. It finally occurred to me that my “brand” was the most valuable thing that I owned. I’ve never seen anyone become multi-millionaires working a 9-5 and living on a minimum base salary. “T.I.”, “50 Cent,” “Master P” and so many others set the standard for me to follow in their footsteps.

Jay “4G” Gathers aka “4G” is an American rapper, actor, and author currently living in the Atlanta area. He’s also the CEO and founder of Grand Master Entertainment which was established in Panama City, Florida in 2017, before relocating here to “Hotlanta” in 2020. He also founded his apparel company G SWAG (God’s Spiritual Walk And Guidance) Known for his high energy and upbeat style, hailing from the vibrant music scene of Florida while growing up in the Sunshine State, he was heavily influenced by the creativity and distinct musical style of that region. That influence has deeply shaped his musical identity, infusing his work with an infectious energy and an undeniable groove that captivates audiences. he drew inspiration from hip-hop greats such as 2Pac, DMX, and Bone Crusher. Their raw lyricism has undoubtedly left an undeniable mark on his artistry, contributing to the passion and intensity that define his work. Throughout his career, 4G has delivered a string of electrifying hits that have resonated with fans across the globe. Chart-topping singles such as “Knock Knock,” “My Fatima,” and “Amazing,” have firmly established him as a force to be reckoned with in the hip-hop scene. In fact, “Amazing” soared to great heights that earned a covetous spot on the prestigious Billboard charts, a testament to his undeniable talent and widespread appeal. Through his magnetic stage presence and arsenal of infectious anthems, 4G continues to captivate audiences and carve out his distinct legacy in the world of hip-hop. His dynamic sound and unwavering dedication to his craft mark him as a true trailblazer, poised to leave an undeniable mark on the music scene for the years to come. His professional journey has not been an easy one by far, but his continued work ethic is what continues to set him apart. In addition, 4G understands to power of speaking things into existence. This coupled with his understanding that his “brand is the most valuable asset” that he owns. This is one of the most important lessons he’s learned on his journey. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m an individual who loves entertainment. If my best friend was in town, live music and entertainment coupled with good food and drinks would have to be on the agenda. The week would consist of attending Live Concerts, Live Comedy Shows, Networking events, professional sporting events (i.e. NBA, WNBA, NFL games) Sports Bar’s (i.e. Trap Cafe, Ubar, Fins & Feathers, Slingshots Social Game, Club) and even K.O.D.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are quite a few that come to mind, but there are two individuals that I want to personally shout out. These individuals are my late spiritual leader Bishop James Kelly who recently passed back in 2023 and my close friend and mentor, Jay Jones. For many years, Bishop Kelly gave of his time discipling me, while helping me develop my faith. I became a better man due to the foundation that was laid. Not only did he assist with laying a great spiritual foundation, but he exemplified the definition of “unconditional” agape godly love. In other words, no matter how many mistakes I made throughout my life, he never stopped believing in me. He always believed I could become that great man that God created me to be.
Jay Jones has a lot of those same characteristics. From the moment we met in late 2023, a brotherhood was formed. His loyalty and commitment to those he encounters is next level. On a personal level, he has continued to speak words of encouragement and edification, reminding me that God created me for greatness. On a professional level, he functions as my personal acting and fitness coach. His biggest contribution comes from a place of mentoring young men on the importance of “mental health.” His approach has been well-received and produced great results. He is one of those constant reminders that there are “no limits to what one can accomplish.
