Hi Alvin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I come from a background that many might find difficult to imagine. My early life was a struggle against poverty, where meals often consisted of little more than water and wonder bread. I witnessed firsthand the fight for survival, watching individuals—men, women, and children—plead for help and search for food and work. It was heartbreaking to see them turned away while others, in luxurious cars and designer suits, laughed or judged their plight.

Out of this experience, I became determined to change my circumstances and those of others. I realized I was tired of being tied to a system that compelled people to expend their lives in relentless work, driven by the fear of losing what little they had gained. The reality hit me: in a 24-hour day, with work consuming 8 hours and sleep absorbing another 8, we are left with just 8 hours to truly live. It became clear that such a minimal slice of time for oneself—a mere 4 hours in the day and 4 at night—was insufficient for anyone to thrive or find joy.

Recognizing this, especially as I pushed myself to the limit with 80-hour work weeks, I stepped back and took a long, hard look at my life. I knew I needed to initiate a change—not only for myself but for the community around me. This revelation ignited a spark within me, leading to the creation of Supertech Refrigeration.

Today, I find myself in a position where I have the freedom reminiscent of a child, unburdened by responsibilities, yet filled with a passion to create and innovate. The journey has been transformative, and I am excited to share more about Supertech Refrigeration. Together, we are not just building a company; we are fostering an environment where people can thrive, enjoy life, and break free from the constraints that hold them back. As the President and Technical Delegator at SuperTech Refrigeration, I wear many hats, and each day presents an opportunity to merge the expertise of various trades. HVAC isn’t just a career for me; it’s a passion. The field is incredibly diverse and complex, and it demands a blend of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and keen attention to detail. What sets me apart from others is my unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. I believe in a hands-on approach, ensuring that every system we design and install meets the highest standards of efficiency and reliability.

Reflecting on my journey, I can definitively say that the path has not been easy. There have been moments of uncertainty and obstacles that tested my resolve. If my best friend were visiting the area and I wanted to give them an unforgettable week, I would curate an itinerary brimming with excitement and local flavor that truly showcases what East Point and Atlanta have to offer.

**Day 1: Arrival and Introduction to East Point**
We’d kick off the week with a warm welcome at Sandtown Pub, a cozy local eatery perfect for relaxing and meeting friendly locals. After a delightful meal, we could meander through East Point’s charming streets, catching the vibe of the community and soaking in the local art scene.

**Day 2: Exploring Atlanta’s Heartbeat**
We’d spend our second day in bustling Atlanta, starting with a invigorating stroll through the Atlanta BeltLine, where art and nature meet. Lunch would be at Ponce City Market, indulging in an eclectic mix of cuisines. In the afternoon, we’d explore the vintage shops and enjoy a sweet treat from the rooftop amusement park that offers stunning skyline views. The evening would be perfect for a lively night out at one of Atlanta’s famous nightclubs, where the rhythm of the city comes alive.

**Day 3: Culture and History**
This day would be dedicated to exploring Atlanta’s rich history. A visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park would be profound and inspiring. After lunch, a visit to the World of Coca-Cola would be a fun adventure into the world of this iconic beverage. To cap off the day, we’d dine at The Cheesecake Factory, enjoying their extensive menu before exploring some hidden speakeasies in the area for a taste of Atlanta’s vibrant nightlife.

**Day 5: Trendy and Unique Outings**
A visit to the Krog Street Market would be on the agenda for locally sourced goods and tasty bites. From there, we’d head to the Fox Theatre to catch a show, soaking in the stunning architecture and ambiance. Dinner at a farm-to-table restaurant would be the perfect conclusion to a culturally rich day.

**Day 6: Nature and Relaxation**
We’d embrace the great outdoors with a hike in the picturesque Stone Mountain Park, taking in breathtaking views. Afterward, we’d enjoy a leisurely picnic. For dinner, a visit to the Melting Pot for a fun fondue experience would be a memorable way to bond and savor delicious dishes together.

**Day 7: Farewell and Reflection**
On our final day, we could explore any spots we missed or revisit favorites. A farewell brunch at West Egg Cafe would be delightful, discussing all the fun we had throughout the week. Before they leave, I’d suggest taking a moment to unwind in one of Atlanta’s lovely parks, reflecting on an incredible week filled with laughter, adventure, and cherished memories.

In this itinerary, I’d ensure every moment is filled with excitement and warmth, highlighting the unique blend of culture, food, and camaraderie that makes our area so special. It would be a week to remember, one that showcases the best of East Point and Atlanta!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible individuals who have shaped my journey, both personally and professionally.

Firstly, I’d like to honor my beloved godmother who passed away when I was younger due to sickle cell disease. She was a powerful source of inspiration for me, teaching me to embrace my talents without fear and reminding me that the path to perfection is one of practice and perseverance. Her words, particularly in her final days, encouraged me to aim high and pursue my dreams relentlessly—an invaluable lesson that stays with me.

I also wish to shout out my cousins, especially Elijah and Dewaun. Together, we dreamed of becoming rich and famous, always envisioning a future where we’d live in a big house filled with laughter and success. Those dreams, born from childhood innocence, have always inspired me to strive for a better life, and I cherish the bond we share.

Another significant figure in my life is my Uncle Bruce, who recently passed away. I remember fishing with him when he asked about my aspirations. I told him I wanted to follow in the footsteps of our family in the HVAC and refrigeration business, and he laughed in support. Although I regret not being able to show him the success we’ve achieved with Supertech Refrigeration, his belief in me has always fueled my determination.

I must also acknowledge Mr. Ramsuer, my high school teacher, who introduced me to drama, acting, and stagecraft. His guidance in woodworking and using industrial power tools laid the foundation for my craftsmanship. He instilled in me the importance of self-expression and resilience—reminding me that no matter the circumstances, the show must go on.

Equally important are my parents. My father was a loving but stern figure in my life. He taught me the value of hard work and perseverance, demonstrating that failure is simply a stepping stone toward success. His tenacity and determination have profoundly influenced me as I navigate my own challenges in building a successful career.

My mother, on the other hand, exemplified unconditional love and forgiveness. She provided warmth and compassion during my toughest times, always encouraging me to rise above anger and revenge. Her sacrifices, have taught me the essence of kindness and gratitude.

I cannot forget my stepmom, who inspired me to strive for nothing less than greatness. Her unwavering support and meticulous attention to detail in my studies have shaped my work ethic and commitment to success.

Finally, my college professor played a pivotal role in my personal growth. He emphasized the importance of reading and knowledge, lessons that resonated with me profoundly after a period of hardship. I learned that by committing to continuous learning, I could transform my life. Reflecting on my past, I realize that the wisdom I gained through reading helped me evolve and ultimately led me to where I am today.

Each of these remarkable individuals has touched my life in profound ways, and I carry their lessons with me as I continue to grow both personally and within the realm of Supertech Refrigeration.
