We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Haney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olivia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been my drive and putting God first in everything I do. Every decision I make is rooted in prayer and faith—I trust that God is guiding me toward the right path. But it’s also about self-motivation. If you don’t truly want success for yourself, it’s not going to happen. There were days when I had no clients, no orders, and nothing seemed to be moving forward. Times where 2 plus 2 was not equalling 4. It was tough, but I kept reminding myself: if I quit now, I’ll never know what could’ve been if I just kept pushing. That mindset is what kept me going—and eventually, things started to turn around. Your drive and belief in yourself are what make the difference. Don’t give up on your dreams.
What should our readers know about your business?
Monets is literally like my baby—I birthed her! I started with no clients, no followers, and honestly, no clue how far this would go. What sets my brand apart isn’t just specializing in natural hair and extensions; it’s about transforming lives. It’s about helping women rediscover themselves and their confidence, starting with their hair. Whether it’s learning to love their natural curls or stepping into a new season with extensions, I’m here for all of it.
But let me tell you, Monets wasn’t even a thought until I was like 19 or 20. It came so randomly—and honestly, I was fighting it at first. I never imagined this would be my path, but God had other plans, and now I can’t picture myself doing anything else.
Getting here wasn’t easy. Nothing about being an entrepreneur is easy—it’s a rollercoaster! The real question every business owner should ask themselves is, ‘How much blood, sweat, and tears are you willing to pour into this?’ For me, the answer was simple: I’m willing to cry a million tears and sweat until I’m soaking wet. That’s how far I want to go with Monets.
Along the way, I’ve learned one major lesson: nobody is going to go as hard for your business as you will. It’s your job to pour into it daily, protect it at all costs, and give it everything you’ve got. At the end of the day, Monets isn’t just a business to me—it’s my passion, my purpose, and my proof that anything is possible when you go all in. So if you’re dreaming of starting something, stop fighting it and just start. You never know where it might take you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I’d make sure they had the best time ever! First things first—breakfast. I’m not a huge breakfast fan, but when I do eat it, we’re definitely heading to Grits and Eggs Breakfast Kitchen because their beignets are chef’s kiss. After that, we’re going straight to The Woodhouse Spa. It’s my absolute favorite spot to relax; the vibe is unmatched, and they always make you feel like a brand-new person. Later in the day, we’d explore the city—maybe do some sightseeing, shopping at local boutiques, Im a huge shopper! By evening, it’s time to turn up! We’d get dolled up and head to one of my favorite spots called Divan’s for a night out. The vibe there is top-tier, with amazing food, drinks, and energy that’ll have us laughing all night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely, I can’t take credit for where I am today without shouting out the man above. God has shown up in my life and business in so many ways, even down to completely changing my career path. After leaving college with a degree in political science to building a 6-figure brand in the beauty industry—only could’ve been Him. I dare not give Him all the credit He deserves for what He’s done for me.
My next shoutout has to go to my parents. From the very beginning, they’ve invested in me—letting me do hair out of the house and encouraging me on those tough days when I felt like giving up. There were moments I’d say, ‘This isn’t working; I’m just going to get a job,’ and they’d push me to keep going. Without their support, I honestly don’t know if I’d be in the position I’m in today. They’ve been my rock and my biggest cheerleaders, and I’m forever grateful for them.
