We had the good fortune of connecting with June Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi June, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is my Spiritual Journey…seeking God, getting my education, helping others and making a positive impact without worrying who gets the credit.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founder and Chief Encouragement Officer of the Virtuous Women Life Academy (VWLA) which is a Christian-based women’s mentoring organization.

The VWLA was inspired by walking with family members through some tough life experiences involving homelessness, single parenting, joblessness and financial challenges. Because of these experiences, I connected with women from all different backgrounds and from all walks of life. It was then that I began to use my Spiritual Gifts of leadership and encouragement, my business experience and the influence that God gave me to inspire other women to reach their God-given potential as individuals, wives, mothers and community servants.

I realized after retiring from Southern Company (Alabama Power & Georgia Power) with 27 years of service in 2013 and serving as the Chair of the Henry County Board of Commissioners that God had such an amazing plan for my life to give back to others and help focus on a purpose driven life action plan to make a positive impact in their families and communities. I now understand that God has been teaching and preparing me for a purpose for others… it’s not about me!

My life experiences have not been easy….. especially the seasons of marrying young, going through a divorce, remarrying with a blended family, losing my mother, raising adult daughters, becoming a grandmother, running and being elected for political office, caring for an aging parent and leading a start-up and growing ministry to encourage other women in the community and in the judicial system.

With prayer and making God the center of my life for all things and in every situation, I have so much GODfidence (not confidence in myself), Peace and Purpose. It is my goal to inspire others to attain the same and more! It is my desired legacy for my daughters, grandchildren and future generations to instill in their hearts and minds that with God they can overcome anything and achieve more than they have ever dreamed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To show my best friend a great experience, I would take them to the Grand China in Buckhead for wonderful food and to experience the Atlanta area. For fun and entertainment, we would visit Southern Belle Farm in Henry County and the Sweet Georgia Juke Joint downtown for fun and entertainment. Of course, we would experience a loving worship service at Stockbridge Community Church.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All credit of my success (that I now call PEACE) is due to the love, direction and support from my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, my earthly parents Robert & Angelene Barnes, my God-given Husband Michael, my children (Junee’ & Junette), my Pastors – Jeff Daws, Belinda Campbell, Ral Waltower, George Robinson, my confidants (Sister Sharon, Aunt Sally, Friends – Renee, Kim, Tammy, Detral, Antoinette & Gina) as well as the my many Southern Company Mentors – David Boone, Tracey Brown, David Ratcliffe, Myrna Pittman & John D’Andrea, my community partners – Lamont Jones, BJ Mathis, Johnny & Donna Wilson and the mentees and volunteers of the Virtuous Women Life Academy.
