Meet Megan Kober: Registered Dietitian & Founder of The Metabolism Makeover

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Kober and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal is completely changing the diet industry. If I asked you how to lose weight, your answer would likely be something along the lines of, “eat less, exercise more.” And that’s great, but that’s such a small part of the story, which is why 95-97% of diets fail. We take a scientific approach and we actually teach people how their metabolism works so that their biology is working for them, not against them. We want to teach 1 million people, who have struggled with weight loss, how human metabolism actually works and how to tune into their hunger signals – their internal calorie counters – so that they’re empowered to make decisions for their own body. A calorie-counting app can’t do that.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’ve been 100% mission-centric from the beginning. Sure, making money is important because in order to reach more people we need more cash to expand, but I’ve played the long game since day 1. We’ve grown slowly and carefully, building trust, and always putting our clients first. We also have a hell of a lot of fun – both internally and with our clients. I also think it’s really important to understand that the challenges never end. It never gets easier, the problems are just different. If you find yourself thinking, “once I get HERE, I’ll be happy” or “once I accomplish THIS, I’ll be happy,” I’d challenge you to revisit your mission. Why are you doing this? What’s your purpose? Because if you stay laser-focused on that mission, and you hold it close, you’ll get to enjoy the journey, too.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LOL, I’m a single mom to a 15-month-old so the thought of having a full week to hang out and do whatever I want with my best friend is WILD. I live in East Atlanta Village, so when I do things with friends, it’s usually popping over to Midway for drinks and mini corndogs so my daughter can hang out and there’s no driving involved! We’d definitely get bagel sandwiches at Emerald City, get coffee at Joe’s, and lunch at Poke Burri. One of my other favorite things to do is walk the Eastside Beltline and go to Shake Shack (double Shack Burger w pickle wrapped in lettuce) or get snacks and wine at Murder Kroger and sit on the patio. Honestly, I had a babysitter, we’d definitely do Sunday Funday in Midtown and probably end up at Pink Pony. Haven’t been there in a while but they have great chicken tenders.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shoutout one of my best friends who started as a mentor to me – Shannan Monson of CEO School – who is also an Atlanta native! I blogged and created content for almost 3 years before making a dime. When I was laid off in 2017 and decided to start seeing clients, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. I had no training in marketing, sales, or running a business. Shannan has really been with me every step of the way from signing my first 1-on-1 client to scaling a virtual program to over 2000 members to hiring a team.
