We had the good fortune of connecting with Quamay Dongeorge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quamay, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am very passionate about making a change within my community. I’ve always wanted to command a room, project, business, brand, foundation, you name it. Growing up music was dear to me and still remain close to my heart but I’ve come far from that place. Imagine a 12 years old wanting to be his own lavish character not knowing where it may lead him. My eclectic vision of fashion itself was ahead of its time and now it’s all coming together into a masterpiece. There’s not so much of a “Why” but… a “when”or a “how”. However, through it all the message remain to uplift individuals to be their authentic selves with trying to fit in but fit out and see that we are differently alike.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This journey has been an emotional battle between wanting to live a regular 9-5 job life or attempt to make a bigger footprint on this world. Learning how to design innovation forward fashion all by myself started off as a proud to be able to do it thing. Now things have turned into a mainstream competition for popularity or relevance. However, I am who I am I have never denied myself of that. The exciting part of this is finding out how much more creative I can get and how many amazing people I get to meet. My brand started off as a project for a new fashion message; Art is anything that moves you. Everything and anything can be considered art. The beauty in this journey has taught me that the beauty in life is in every inch of the first step, and the last breath. I’ve learned that the race only ends if you’ give up.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Just recently moved into new area so that’s always fun and also received a new car so transportation is less humbling but very much appreciated. I am very much to myself so if a friend did come depending on the day I may have an event but if not food will be always be my go to. I love “Hero Donuts” I love Korean, Japanese, and Chinese food. Most likely I made something really door and depending on the friend, we’d go to a music studio or a photoshoot. Always love catching with some drinks and good music. Midtown is a good vibe, Ponce or the belt line. On
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to personally shoutout all of my models, and my friends for supporting me with any project I’ve had or fashion show. It goes so far for me and it allows me to see the potential and know that it’s all worth it. Seeing people smile when getting a something they want is magical to me.
