We had the good fortune of connecting with Skyler Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Skyler, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
I have recently expanded my business by hiring a team of instructors. Deciding who I will bring on to teach and work out of my studio space has been the most difficult decision I’ve had to make in this expansion season.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Skyler’s Music Studio provides online and in-person music lessons, classes, workshops, and events. We have a professional team of educated and talented instructors who teach a variety of instruments. All of our instructors have degrees in music, along with performance experience. I am excited about our successful fall season so far.

I have been in business for over 7 years, and the consistency has helped me get there. I lean in on what my strengths are, and now I have built a team that is capable in other great ways. Teaching private lessons is likely the easiest thing I could do next to singing, but building the business has not been easy. The administrative work, marketing, and all the things that go into keeping it afloat is a full-time job.

I overcome the challenges by having people in my corner who are also on a similar path. I have learned that I do not know it all, so I research, I read books, and I go with my gut. I have learned that sometimes there’s no right or wrong way, but you just have to make a decision that works for you. I want the world to know that anyone can learn music, and all it takes is a little practice and a great instructor.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lately, I’ve been going to this new eatery called Halidom Eatery in East Atlanta. It’s great there. There are restaurants, a bar, and often live music or a dj. Other than that, I would take them to see live music at various venues around town. There’s always something fun to do in this city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shout out My Best Voice! We joined forces last year for a monthly karaoke event. It has been consistently growing and they are a great partner to work with!
