We had the good fortune of connecting with Hector Rojas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hector, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Personally, for me, I try to focus on small obtainable habits that I can execute day in and day out. For example waking up early and getting in a workout before heading to the office. These two simple habits, set my day up for success. Another broader habit is just being consistent. Perfection is not obtainable and being occasionally great doesn’t yield results. Being consistently good day in and day out is what has elevated my career.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a personal injury trial attorney at the largest injury firm in America. I am also a partner of the firm. I help seriously injured individuals and the families of individuals who have lost a loved one due to the negligence of another.
It is challenging work, but very rewarding. To get to where I am today took 7 years of schooling: 4 year college degree followed by 3 years of law school.
When I started working it was difficult. A lot of law school has to do with theories of the law but not much with the practice of law. I remember starting out as a younger attorney working 8am- 10pm for the first two years. Colleagues would go by my office and say “if we don’t stop by your office we won’t see you” and that was because I never left my office simply because it took me so long to get my work done.
As the years went on, I got better. I learned how to manage staff, how to manage my clients and my cases. I also learned the law and the practice of law better. My biggest accomplishment came in 2023 when I represented the family who lost their father when a Comcast vehicle negligently ran a red light and battled into his car leaving him severely injured and eventually taking his life. Eventually, after years of litigation, we went to trial where I was lead counsel. After a 4 day trial, a jury awarded my clients nearly $19 million dollars, which set a record in our Georgia office only as the largest jury verdict recovered.
To get here wasn’t easy and really the only advice I can give someone in a similar position is: you have to do the work.
There’s no shortcut. There’s no magic. It’s hard work plain and simple.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta and the state of Georgia has so much to offer. I’ll assume the weather is warm and start by showing my friend piedmont park and the iconic Beltline. There are plenty spots along the Beltline to eat and drink including Ponce City Market where we could cap off the night with incredible skyline views.
Next, I would make sure they costed the aquarium and the world of Coke. Two ATL staples.
If the Braves are in town, I would take them to catch a game at Truist park and stick around for some food and drinks at the battery.
Similarly, if there is an ATL United game happening, I would take them down to the Mercedes Benz Stadium to catch a game. The energy at these games is always incredible.
For a nice dinner, I would recommend Hal’s in Buckhead or Rathbuns on the Beltline. Both places are solid for steak lovers!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I credit a lot of my success to my Dad, who passed away several years ago. He instilled in me hard work at a very early age and was very strict with me. At the time, growing up, I didn’t appreciate it. But today, I look back and realize it was just what I needed to stay on track.
