We had the good fortune of connecting with Cerod Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cerod, what is the most important factor behind your success?
God! I definitely believe that with all the knowledge I’ve been able to attain over my years of working in the industry, the steps that I’ve taking have been completely ordered by him and him alone. When I think the success I’ve gotten so far is something, I’m met with a greater level of process and accomplishment.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I’m a producer and arranger who’s been blessed with the ability to hear and imagine what music sounds like from the audience perspective before the audience gets to hear it! Being able to play multiple instruments, it allows me to understand music outside of one seat. I’m currently touring with Jelly Roll and Warren Zeiders as the Playback Tech for this tour. It’s never been easy!! lol But, that’s what has continued to give me the drive to keep striving for greater. I believe that God, my wife and family have been the pillar I’ve needed all these years in order to realize, in all things, give thanks!! I’ve learned that if you don’t quit, believe and already see yourself where you want to be, there’s ONLY a matter of time before that very vision will come to past. I want the world to know me as a hardworking, man of integrity that has a heart for people.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Haha!
Well, first I would ask them if they were hungry! Everybody loves some good food & drinks right?! I’m a people person. I love going to concerts and catching up with other musicians to play some good music! I always try to find open mic venues when I’m traveling so I like sharing that with friends that come into town. Some of the most exciting people to me are eccentric. I’m a little eccentric myself haha! If I can find some new adventures to get into that are unplanned, I’m all about it!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off, I have to thank God for giving me the opportunities to be able to be a living testimony of his glory. My beautiful wife, Jmarie, who has given me loving support on my best and worst days. I love you Mi Amor. My son Princeton, who I want to inspire the most, for understanding those times dad has to work and couldn’t be around. My parents gave me an amazing foundation. They remind me even today to keep a level head in everything I do and everywhere I go. I have to shoutout a good mentor of mine, Ronnie Garrett for giving me my first real opportunity in Atlanta,GA to allow my sound and work to be discovered by some major people in the Industry. I appreciate you Chief! I also want to thank every artist that has allowed me to touch their work and inspire their sound to keep pushing it forward. It doesn’t go unnoticed! I’m humbled.
