Meet Rickey Green

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rickey Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rickey, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I grew up in a small town. Beaufort, SC to be specific. I was blessed to be raised in a family full of singers. Thankful for the genes! Since childhood I’ve sang in the choir at my church. I got into writing music in high school. I remember participating in a music program called LOUD (Living Out Your Dreams) that was sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club. I was able to learn how to write songs and record music. Shoutout to God, my parents, and Jamie Fleming who was the head of the LOUD program for molding me into who I am today as a musician.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I base my creative writing from real life experiences. Either I’ve been through the situation that I write about or others have. I try to be relatable to the audience because that’s who’s listening. It’s still crazy to say that I’ve had the opportunity to write for Chris Brown’s 11:11 album. Our Team (KDP) didn’t make the album but it was an honor to be acknowledged for the references that were sent. No this creative journey has not been easy. I almost thought about quitting in general. I tend to overthink and doubt my abilities. Fortunately, I have faith as well as peers that give me solid advice and praise for the work I put in. What I’ve learned is that God’s Timing is the best timing. My artist name is Beg1n and its meaning speaks for itself. Never be afraid to start.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dang that’s a difficult question. So I’m based in Charlotte, NC. If I’m not being a hermit I would take the person to Dave & Busters, Frankie’s, or Top Golf. For food probably somewhere like Midnight Diner, Tupelo Honey, or a lounge in the city. There’s so much to do in CLT so we can plan it out as we go but those were the main places I had in mind.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First off all praises go to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He’s guided me through so much. My parents second because I wouldn’t be the man that I am if it wasn’t for them pushing me. Last but not least my brothers KingDrums & Allen B. It’s been a heck of a year with those two. We’re just getting started.
