We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, how do you think about risk?
Risks are scary for me, honestly; taking risks in life for me has always seemed to work out for me one way or another. I wouldn’t be a content creator, Twitch affiliate, and graphic designer if I hadn’t taken risks up until this point in my life. I’m grateful that I did, despite some days along the journey being more difficult than others
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To start off, I’m a mobile creative. When I say that, I mean I do literally everything on my phone…I mean it’s 2024: we wouldn’t be where we are today as a society without our phones (I feel collectively we could use them a bit less). I stream from my phone, I create designs for my clientele on it (shoutout to Canva!), and I play all of my favorite games on my phone with my controller (also shoutout to Xbox and their game pass! 10/10 recommend). How many mobile streamers do you know that work to set their streams up with overlays and all like it’s on a PC? I don’t know many myself…so that sets me apart in that aspect. I remember when I first got the idea in March of this year after my PC crashed the month before, I immediately got on YouTube and was researching “how to mobile stream, how to add overlays on mobile streams”, etc., I was downloading my mobile streaming platform, running test, the whole nine yards! It was actually super easy, but not 100% of the time. Overcoming them was as simple as pushing through and working on the difficulties of setting things up. Along the way, I’ve come to learn to just keep going…that’s kind of always been my life theme actually. One thing I want people to know about my story and brand is that you have to look at it like Rome; it wasn’t built in a day as the old saying goes! I can never just jump into anything or rush…the turtle won the race, and beat the rabbit after all. I feel more importantly, there’s never a real finish line; I remember watching an interview with Xbox President, Sarah Bond, and she mentioned “there is no being, there is only becoming”, which hails so true not only for myself, but everyone.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh that’s a tough one, I hardly go out. I’d probably get an air BnB, then from there I would be on Google looking up activities. We’d have to stop by Chili’s or Torcy’s Tacos at least one; Torchy’s has best breakfast tacos! My city has changed so much in the past decade, I hardly know where anything is. I know a spot for certain I would go is Cidercade arcade! It’s this family friendly arcade, but is mostly dedicated to the 21+ club (hence the “cider” in the name)…that and the video game museum! I would have to say some of the most fun experiences is just hanging around and laughing with good hearted people, good energy, and of course good food!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my mom! She’s really my best friend. If I didn’t have her, I don’t know where I would be! This past year has been one of both success and turbulence, and my mother comes through and provides every single time. I always say I get my fighting spirit from her; growing up, I’ve seen life get her down, but she’s gotten back up and fought even harder to get where she wants to be. (Hi, Mom!) I wouldn’t be the person, the woman, that I am today if it wasn’t for her.
