We had the good fortune of connecting with Airamas (f.k.a Samaria) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Airamas, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks have been integral in my career as it is risky to simply put yourself in front of people both in person and online and show them what you feel like you can do well. As a composer and a musician, I do little without strategic risk taking. I try not to take opportunities unless they make sense with my long term vision. Oftentimes, those opportunities come with the possibility of losing what I have invested (time, money etc.) in pursuit of them. Navigating these options has fortified my trust in my own intuition and planted me in the ecosystems most aligned with myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been playing guitar on and off for 12 years. When I was 14 I started posting mini covers on social media and noticed that I neo-soulize almost any song I sing. I posted consistently up until the start of the pandemic and took a step back from music to recenter myself amongst all of the change happening globally and personally. This year, I began centering music again with a fresher perspective and ushered in a rebrand from my teenage years as an artist.

I have historically viewed my musical expression as an outpour of everything buzzing inside me and it often takes shape in songs with lots of layers and ornamentation. My past projects have included such moving parts which when pressed down together could be categorized as R&B or indie pop funk.

As now, Airamas, I have been working on a music project that really encapsulates my growth and maturity since my last projects and I am interested to see how my understanding of my own expression shifts as I continue to grow and create.

I perform guitar and vocals around the city, release original music, make music content for social media, and compose/supervise scores for films. I am currently accepting booking inquiries for events, festivals, restaurants, and corporate outings. You can book me at contactairamasmusic@gmail.com

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For food, I would recommend Kamayan ATL, a Filipino restaurant in Doraville. The chicken skewers, shrimp lumpia, and lychee candy at the front desk were all really good. I would also try their Chicken Adobo and Bansilog.

For entertainment, I’d check out Terminal West. It’s a concert venue in Atlanta that has an accessible outdoor section in the back. I saw Kelela perform live there last year and it was amazing!

In terms of sight seeing, I would check out Sope Creek Trail for a hike and Fernbank Planetarium for an immersive planetary experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this to all of the people who had to survive in order for me to be here. Everything they achieved has allowed me to do what I am doing right now. To my ancestors, those who came before me, I am eternally grateful.
