We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah George, PhD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think one of the biggest things that folks may not fully realize is what it means to be a science-backed principle or practice.
At Empowered Healing Practices, when we say something is “science-backed” we mean that there are actual, published, scientific studies showing the efficacy and benefits of the practice in other humans. These studies often share at least one, if not many, of the following characteristics; They are:
1. Peer-reviewed;
2. Published in journals with a high impact-factor or otherwise well known in it’s field ;
3. Published by well known university or government groups (such as the NIH or NSF) ;
4. Published by credentialed scientists or doctors, often known for work in their field;
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Empowered Healing Practices, LLC is a place for those on a healing journey–be it from a recent surgery, an acute illness, chronic pain, cancer, chronic illness, disease, etc–to learn, to heal, and take their power back on their healing journey.
It’s a service, a resource, and a community.
It’s as much a Passion Project as it is a Business.
It’s as much Science as it is Empathy and Connection in Action.
It’s a place for those on a healing journey to be seen, heard, and supported.
In fact, that’s really why I launched EHP. From my mom to my sister to friends and acquaintances to complete strangers, I have witnessed folks struggling with their health and, time and time again, being told that there was little to no help that our traditional Western medical system could offer them.
This was my motivation to couple my scientific training and intense curiosity about human wellness with an empathy toward others that’s been with me since I can remember, and turn it into a science-backed, heart-lead business designed to provide options for those that seemingly don’t have any.
Right now, EHP is focused on:
1. Education: Primarily found on the EHP website through the description of the Core Practices, on the Blog, and in the Library.
2. Practices: Primarily found on our YouTube Channel –we currently practice (Mindfulness, Deep Relaxation, Guided Imagery, and Gratitude) –Every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the Month at 8:00pm EST. Practice is open to everyone, so please come join us!
3. Encouragement: Primarily found through our community emails (sign up on the Website!) and through our Facebook Group.
I’m most excited to:
1. Launch my 12 week intensive program centered on the Core Practices (planned for Fall 2024).
2. Begin talks with hospitals and similar locales about brining this and other programs to patients and families there.
3. Engage in speaking engagements to help more and more people learn about the support and options available to them.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to Shoutout Leanne Jamison, Founder and CEO of the Institute for Female Trailblazers and my empowerment coach. Three years ago, I was in a fog. I knew I wanted more for my life; knew that I was always meant to help folks and help heal those who were hurting, But, I was lost and not quite sure how to find my way back to my path. That’s when I started Leanne’s Legacy Foundation program. For two years, I worked her program to find myself, know myself, and find my way back to my life’s purpose. At the beginning of year three, I started her Legacy Builders program and began slowly building my “Passion Project” and vision for Empowered Healing Practices. 6 months in, I officially Launched EHP as an LLC and have continued building and growing ever since. I also want to thank my friend, Alexis Burns, PhD, for encouraging me to join Leanne’s program; I want to thank all of the members of the programs for their encouragement, feedback, and support; and I want to thank Leanne for patiently and joyfully guiding me first to myself, then to my purpose, and now guiding and cheering me on as Empowered Healing Practices grows.
I also want to shoutout my family. My mom, Sue, my dad, Jack, my sister, Shawna first for ALL being amazing examples of what it means to be an entrepreneur; Second, you opened my eyes and my heart to what it meant to suffer and not find answers or relief through traditional Western medicine and to be a support system for those in suffering. Between you all, I’ve witnessed your struggles and resilience with cluster headaches, chronic pain, and other physical symptoms that, seemingly, have no answer–and yet, you’ve carried on, gone to yet another doctor, tried yet another treatment, and gone on to live as homemaker, caretaker, gardener, seamstress, business woman, business man, musician, artists. You inspire me and you motivate me to grow Empowered Healing Practices so that you and others have options, support, and a place to heal.
Of course, shoutout to my Husband and my friends for supporting me and cheering me on. When I was in doubt, you gave me the courage to keep going and when I was excited, you helped pump me up!
There are so many others that are part of my story and they all deserve pages of thanks. This is not a solo journey by any means. I haven’t had a child, but I did feel that brining this business to life was like a different kind of birth and, for my experience so far, it truly does take a village. My deepest love and gratitude to all.
