We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamesha Mckelvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamesha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Wanting to create a better life financially for myself. Growing up I didnt have much but I always saw my dad hustle to make sure we had what me my mom and my siblings needed. After only having one real job and getting rejected from others he never gave up and never allowed us to see him sweat. My mom always had a job and still seemed to struggle so I didnt want that for myself. I needed to see how much funds I could make without depending on a corporate job
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I start Rich Fantasy LLC in 2019. Its a hair company. In the past I sold hair bundles. Both on hand and drop shipping. This is when I started to realize extensions were something I wanted to get in to. It started becoming the wave and was becoming a billion dollar industry. I had to get my hands on some hair for the clients who wanted to rich hair look on a budget. I was most excited to see where this would take me and to my surprise I had gotten a lot of support. It took off rapidly and I was over ecstatic. I had to put my hair supply on hold because of my Relocation to Atlanta from Charleston SC. I came out here and had to grind so hard to get to where I am today. Within 2 years of being here I had established a mini clientele. Enough to where I was able to get a suite and work on my own. It hasnt been easy and didnt come over night but i trusted the process because I was so hungry to make it without a corporate job. There were times where I was dead broke and didnt know how I was goin to get the bills paid. I cried. I vented. I worried but God had this destined for me so i kept faith and stood on business and always climbed out of the dark. Those moments are why i am a strong business person today. I want the world to know my name. I want the world to know my face and to know that there are still stylist and business owner out here who still have great customer service, that we really value them as clients. There are still stylist out here that care about the integrity of your hair. Not everyone is out to get you for just your money. We care about building relationships with them. Thats what my business represents. Once I lock in as your stylist you’ll never have to worry about your hair again.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend and friends come to the city we like to eat and get active as we like to say lol. By get active we mean be big kids. We go to places like White Water which is the water park for six flags. We go to places like andrettis and get for boat rides on the lake in Acworth. We are from by the water so we love seafood. There are only a few good seafood places we go to on the east side and we like the Boiler in the city. We would even hit a few places where we can eat and vibe out such as Boogaloo, Vision, Cru, and Elleven45 jusy to name a few. There maybe a few nights where we just want a chill night so we will hit up places such as a roof top bars or a hookah lounge. But most importantly we are going to eat for sure.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout God and my family. God has always been present in my life. Every step of the way. Every downfall, every mistake and every accomplishment. Nothing is possible without him. My family because these are the people who’s supported me even when I would doubt myself. My biggest supporters and critics. My cousin Del suggested I go to cosmetology school. Did it and it’s been my life ever since. My mom bought my first styling chair and station. My sisters where the first to let me practice on their hair, aunts were the first to let me do color and etc. They’ve always been there every step of the way. Never let me give up and for them i am the stylist I am today
