We had the good fortune of connecting with Dezmon Jamerson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dezmon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business has always been a personal aspiration. In 2017, I launched a clothing line called By3 in Detroit and later created custom shirts for students and teachers during my college years. Initially, I did not pursue these ventures with the seriousness they deserved. However, after dedicating my life to Christ, I felt a clear calling to pursue my passion with a higher purpose. This led to the creation of Kingdom Klothing, a brand dedicated to glorifying Him through my work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My story is one of profound testimony, and I love expressing it through my brand, Kingdom Klothing. From childhood, I faced significant challenges, such as dealing with alopecia and being teased by other kids, often coming home in tears to my mother. Holding my stepfather in my arms as he passed away from a heart attack in his sleep was an incredibly traumatizing experience. Being diagnosed with diabetes just before my 21st birthday, spending three days in the hospital, and later discovering a cyst on my throat that required my first-ever surgery were also unforgettable trials. Additionally, my diagnosis of Bell’s palsy was another obstacle I had to overcome.
All of these experiences were difficult trials that I had to endure to shape my story. I channeled all of these into my brand, Kingdom Klothing. Despite the hardships, I couldn’t give up because God never gave up on me. His hand was on my life through every challenge I faced, and these experiences equipped me to minister to the youth about perseverance and prayer.
I make clothes because I grew tired of wearing symbols of death, like skulls and crossbones, and wanted people to know that I believe in God. I wanted to create apparel that reflects this belief and resonates with others who share my faith.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were to show my best friend around town, we’d start with my favorite food spots: Slutty Vegan, Touchdown Wings, and Gut Busters. These are my go-to places for incredible eats. As for activities, I’m still exploring the city myself, discovering new things to do every day. A must-visit is the Georgia Aquarium, one of the best spots if you’re interested in animals. If not, the Coca-Cola Museum is right next door, offering an amazing experience where you can try over 100 different Coke flavors.
For a fun-filled time, we’d head to Andretti’s, which offers bowling, laser tag, go-karts, and arcade games. As a big kid at heart, I find it an absolute blast! And we would have to stop by the Number one Christian hip hop radio station “ Fresh leftovers “ they are incredible and it’s always a great time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My journey is composed of many significant elements. Growing up in Detroit instilled in me a strong work ethic through the necessity of hustling and grinding. I owe this to my mother Taurus Jamerson, who, despite the challenges of raising two children as a single parent, never gave up and remains my primary motivation.
College was another pivotal phase where I met numerous remarkable individuals who have greatly contributed to my success. Additionally, my wife Aaliyah has played a crucial role in my life. She helped me rededicate my life to Jesus, revealing a higher purpose beyond my previous endeavors. I am profoundly grateful to Jesus Christ for guiding me to this point.
