We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Dean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is being consistent. Consistency is the key in my field because you have to be able to deliver the same good taste and good feeling with every drink that’s being made . I’m constantly on Facebook and Instagram looking and catching the new trends of drinks being made to stay updated and relevant .

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jess Mix It Bartending is an ultimate drinking experience. Jess Mix It caters to all events . I first started off as selling pre-mixed bottle drinks .I branded the name Jess Sippin Exotic beverages , the Jess Sippin came from my name Jessica . I had over 12 signature drinks that I constructed myself . They ranged from tequila , vodka and cognac mixtures . I had a drink made for every taste bud possible . They weren’t just fruity drinks made for woman only .I had drinks also tailored for men that were strong and not so fruity . After selling out I decided that I could take my business to another level and fix drinks for people at their leisure in person . It was not easy transition from just selling drinks to becoming a bartender. I had to buy over 30 things to get started , come up with a great price list and slogan for my business . Along the way I learned plenty of lessons but the one that stuck out was you won’t be able to please everybody with your prices and work , everyone has their own favorite out there .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here in valdosta we are constantly growing . Currently I bartend for a great restaurant chain out of Atlanta , Georgia called “ Fin and Feathers “ . It’s a neo soul vibe with great food , daily drink specials and DJ’s on certain nights . On Mondays they have margarita Monday where margaritas are $5 all night long and great hookah specials . Then on Tuesdays Dejavu has “Taco Tuesday “ they sell the best soulful tacos . Wednesdays are more chill , a great DJ friend of mine by the name of Fatboy Rhymer host Ladies night at club extreme it’s always a vibe . That’s some of the nightlife during the week . On Friday and Saturday all roads leads to renewed Liquid Lounge which opens everyday at with great wings , drink specials and more it’s owned by my great friend Jim Rock and Tevan Bivins . Those are the places to have a guaranteed good time here in my city .

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can not go on without giving my home , Dejavu Nightclub and the owners Kapreal Griffin , Shonn Tucker and Torrey Small a big thank you for allowing me to grow my business and my skills within their business . They let me have full control of the bar and creativity to show case my skills for 4 years . Also good friend of mine Precious Lamar was the first one to book for me an event as I brought out my business . She gave me my breakout chance and I killed it , 5 years ago .
