We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikay Ranae and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikay, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a parent , the most important thing I have done is staying consistent and not giving up on life. As I look at my daughter I notice she carries the same traits. My daughter is consistent with her life goals.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a designer and stylist. What sets me
apart from others is my unique style. Every garment created is different with a touch of my personality. I got to where I am today because of Jesus. I am a self taught designer but furthered my education and went to college for fashion design and business management . Getting this far wasn’t easy at all. I’m a wife and mother so I had to learn balance. I had to overcome these challenges with balance, that’s what helped me finish college and make sure my family needs were met. The lessons I learned along the way are to be professional with arrogant clients and to keep going no matter what obstacles I face. My brand Nikki J Collection is everyday wear for women of all shapes and sizes. We will be relaunching our website this summer introducing our extended luxury line Ni’Kay Ranae.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots to go to for food are Kabob land , Chicago Pizza and Folk Art. For drinks I
have no recommendations because I only drink wine lol . For fun I would take them skating, aquarium and to the outlets because I love to shop.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give recognition to my mother Terrilyn. My mother always push me to be a better version of myself daily. Growing up in a single family household, made me want to beat the statistics of the world. The values my mom instilled in me helped me to do just that.
