Meet Latrice Latin Alexander | Civil rights and Personal Injury Attorney

We had the good fortune of connecting with Latrice Latin Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latrice, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In the beginning, I never wanted to start my own. I always thought I would just practice law! The business aspect was never that important to me. My goal was to do what I loved and went to school for. After a while, I noticed that things in different firms were not going the way I wanted. I was busy putting together operations procedures and managing how things should go in the firms. I also started to out-learn and out-pace my co-workers and superiors so I really didn’t have a choice but to start my own thing so I could practice the way I wanted to.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a fully remote civil rights and personal injury law firm. I have two virtual assistants from South Africa and a stateside litigation paralegal. I am not out here to get a million cases. I just want a few good cases. We are a boutique firm that prides itself on stellar client communication and getting the job done!

I am most excited about the fact that I have continually rebranded myself and excelled in each area. I try and find an area of law where a lot of lawyers are not focusing on and become an expert there. My next major goal is to become the first nationally known Female Civil Rights attorney!

This journey has not been easy. I had to learn how to be a business owner and a lawyer, and for years I struggled with the dual roles. They don’t teach you how to run a business in law school. After a few years, I had to change up my flow because i was literally drowning. I kept going to work at places because I couldn’t get the business part down even though I knew i was an exceptional attorney. I felt like I was practicing law as a hobby, but not really understanding how to make a profitable business out of my efforts. During the pandemic I finally said this is enough. I quit a job at a firm that I had and started a new one and he fired me after 7 days for absolutely NO Reason. I realized that I never wanted to be in that situation again, and I found a business coaching program, I read books, and I found mentors and other attorneys who could school me in the business of law.

I would want the world to know that this brand that I am creating at this moment is the essence of who I am at this moment. I am a justice fighter, I am a community advocate and I am a leader in getting justice for all my clients.

I was the first in my family to complete college and law school, and I was the first to grow a multi-million dollar business that I started from scratch, with no loans, no financial help, two kids and no credit history.

All of this is coming from not knowing how I was going to get into law school, let alone pay for law school. I literally started from nothing, got pregnant during college and as a single mother, I hustled and made a name for myself. I finished everything I said I would and I still push myself harder today than I did when I first started. I am always pushing the goalpost back and wanting to do more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
omg, I am such a homebody. I also love to cook so I usually have dinner and drinks at home. If I had to pick, I would maybe find a concert or a show. Check out a museum or a cool event that was going on for the weekend. Maybe look up a few new restaurants in the downtown area. I really don’t get out much. lol. I have made my home my safe and relaxing space.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My first big shout out is to God! without his wisdom, guidance, and mercy I would not be here. My mother for always believing in me and pushing me beyond what I thought my limit was. My husband for being the best support system when needed. My Team – My CPA Jayden Doye at Prestige Accounting, Margarita Eberline at Marketing Boss for getting my marketing together, Praise Jackson from Elements of Delight for helping me find my brand and voice, and my staff for this incredible journey we have been on. My mentor Harry Daniels got me into my civil rights practice and pushed me to the limit to learn and do better.
