We had the good fortune of connecting with Kennedy Imon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kennedy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career because I really valued being able to show up as myself and not a shell of what capitalism expects of me. My voice, my art, my talents are too powerful and needed to not chase after my dreams and make them a reality. We’re all creative, I just believe there are doers and watchers. I wanted to be a doer. I am a doer.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I moved from Alabama to Atlanta, GA right after college with a vision and dreams for my future. It was challenging mostly because I struggled with imposter syndrome so bad and not believing in myself and my ability to figure it out for myself. But, I knew that I left home for something bigger than myself. I learned so much about myself, my ability to adapt and build confidence in myself and talents. I want the world to know about me and my story that there’s no timeline of what you can accomplish. I’m learning, existing and evolving into the person I know I can be. Consistently reminding myself that it’s okay to not have it all figured out. I got this!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love a good happy hour. Bulla, Fin & Feathers, STK and High Note are some of my go-to’s. I’m a nature girl I live going to Piedmont park or Roswell Mill, really anywhere near trees and water.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my team of friends that have helped push me creatively and consistently inspire me and my art. I moved to Atlanta in search of community and I found that in my creative circle. I’m not a one woman show, I appreciate having individuals around me who have the same passion of music and artistry as I do!
