We had the good fortune of connecting with Looch Bodega and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Looch, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I don’t think I chose this I think it chose ME and this is why,
Born in Jane and Finch, Toronto, Can. From Dominican parents, than being sent back home (Dominican rep.) from age of 3 until 14, now during my up bringing specially in a country full of love joy and music is why I say it chose me because ever since I can remember I’ve had music in me I learned how to dance bachata and merengue by age of 4 and from there on down my block in DR there was a merengue típico band and I’d go watch them Practice every week for they’re weekend shows, than in school I met these New Yorkers that they send back home when they’re bad in the US and they used to make beats with they pen and pencils on the desk it was mind blowing and at that age I was about 6-7 yrs old and I started making rhymes with my friends and bothering so much in class with music that the teacher asked me once or twice to do the project in rhymes and raps rather than pen and paper and been going ever since, mostly for passion because I love it but from año it 8years and on now it’s been more on business and I’m grateful for it, can’t wait to see what God has planned for me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
With me I’ve always seen my self not fitting in certain places because I see my self in another for example and not to bash or bring down ANYBODY but it’s hard to work with someone that isn’t at the level of where I have reached now.
But what’s most different about me I think is me as a whole person because when people see me they assume something else like non Caribbean non talented or like just another guy, that’s until they see me dressing and being my self and or making music and the way I carry my self, that changes the way people view me and feel or even think about me.
To get here it’s just been straight hustling a position hitting up people networking connecting and really really really
Never stop grinding recording writing no even if you don’t record you could write always and practice it and just die it over and over again that’s how I am where I am at today not easy but just never stopping even with family problems any type of issue doesn’t get in the way of my studio time my writing time my shows if had some at time etc…
I just want them to know that Looch is love love is Looch and that Todo con Amor Florece siempre also obviously my music I feel it hits different it’s the type you could play aaallwaayysss it’s a HEAVYDUTY type, specially my Afro beats but in general I’ve always made lasting music not moment music and it’s not just me saying it’s the peoples that have told me this.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well ok for sure the studios we could visit different once’s im normally in them, but for sure to eat would be my favourite Dominican restaurant in the city “Aquarela” than some “Contigo” and obviously the top notches like Jack astors, shoeless joes and good stops like those, we would also obviously take a ride thru my hoods and my peoples just connecting and showing the city downtown like CN tower go watch a baseball or ball game anything like that is a crazy experience out here it’s a beautiful city Toronto city and if I’m in my city in Dominican than it’s a whooooleee other movieeeee from rivers cool I NY there and eating right away to beaches to riding motorcycles 4wheelers etc man it’ll get crazy and visit studios shoot videos all that I’d be even better in Dominican Rep.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes I feel like all artist had or have that leap of push in they’re life’s that helped them keep going weather good or bad because I’ve turned negativity and creativity but also the positivity has to always be there in order for it to flourish.
First of all God than my Moms because I wanted to convince her which I did before she passed that I wanted to do full out urban music and when she started seeing i was getting 300-500 per show in my beginnings and listening to my music the quality and that I wasn’t just another person doing it she really pushed me to do it and that she would help me get on shows and things in our home town of La Vega, Dom.Rep.
Secondly my SUPPORTERS if I hadn’t gotten any love any feed backs or anythiiiing at all from all my HeavyDutys than I would’ve probably stopped, but these peoples constantly asking for music or where am at if I don’t post for long or just always interested in knowing what I’m doing next and what’s coming and what’s happening in my career. Extremely greatful for them.
Than my cousin Kelvin (DK) he first heard me rap at age 15 when I go to Toronto and he made my first songs ever than met a group thru him ROSxRMG which they made me part of also and met Skrilla aka Wzrd his a prod/eng/artist everything he would do it all for us and I learned ALOT from him composing and just seeing how he works inspired me.
Than came in the picture one of my main guys that actually made it in the industry moved to Miami and all sold songs to Enrique iglesias, maluma and Nicky jam etc, KADEL this dude is the most important dude to me because with him I learned quality and how to really move in the industry and what they looking for and how to do stuff properly also he opened up my mind to doing more comercial music like global music not just rap hip hop but every genre if possible, he would do all my stuff for free while charging everyone else we do have an agreement where whatever the song makes he keeps but honestly I wasn’t anywhere too far when he came in my life if anything he helped and keeps helping me build and be better.
And last but not least my wifey for always being there thru thick and thin and even when we argued and I had a show she would show up and still be there for me which I’m so thankful for because it showed me always who’s really there who’s really not. And my family they always holding me down and supporting fully loaded.
