We had the good fortune of connecting with KYUNG KIM and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KYUNG, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a passion for working out and playing sports growing up. Soon after graduating from UGA I opened a retail store with a close friend of mine that sold dietary supplements. That’s when I realized that I wanted to create a brand based on quality at an affordable price. This has now evolved into having our own 3rd party certified manufacturing facility, two sports nutrition brands (FINAFLEX and PURUS LABS), and a functional food company (REDEFINE FOODS).
What should our readers know about your business?
The biggest thing that sets FINAFLEX AND PURUS apart from other supplement brands is that we manufacture our products. Other dietary supplement brands rely on co-packers to manufacture their products therefore sacrificing quality. Our facility is an FDA-registered and 3rd party-certified manufacturing facility that has a lab to test for all raw materials that go into our products. We also test all of our finished goods for any microorganisms and specifications using FTIR.
I’m most excited about our snack side of the business, Redefine Foods. Our mission is to transform beloved childhood snacks into healthy better-for-you protein snacks that meet your wellness goals while making eating healthy, and fun again.
Owning your own business brings different challenges every day. You have to wake up with an open mind, identify the problem, and come up with a solution. Everyone makes mistakes but what sets businesses and people apart are the ones that learn from their mistake and not making the same mistake twice.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is definitely a difficult question. I currently have 4 kids ranging from 14 to 6 and they are all involved in sports. I’m also involved in coaching the 2 boys in football and baseball while the 2 girls are in cheer. So, running a company and being involved in my kid’s sports makes it almost impossible to break off for a full week. That being said, if I were to be able to entertain my best friend for a week then I would take him up to lake lanier and hang out at one of the private islands. I love the water and lake lanier is an awesome place to hang out. I would take him to check out the aquarium because it’s got to be one of the coolest things in Atlanta.
One of my favorite places to eat with a bunch of flavors is a korean BBQ place called Arirang. Wide variety of choices and crazy amounts of meat!
I would also make a day trip up to north Georgia and check out Anna Ruby Falls, then stop by helen georgia but wait until we get down to a little hidden BBQ place called Farm House produce where they have the best BBQ in Georgia.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Three things that are important to me that make every day possible are God, family, and my employees. None of my success would be possible without having Jesus in my life and the support from my family. Everyone who works for the company comes together to bring the ideas to life.
